Rail station - Puri, 2023
Shorty train at King Memorial MARTA Station, headed westbound. Spotted as we waited for the eastbound train to Inman Park, followed by a short walk to Lloyd's for delicious foods. Transit Oriented Dinner.
Rail Station welcomes patrons regardless of their sexual or gender identity. But for those in the LGBTQ+ community, establishments like this are a safe space
Top: what intercity travel looks like in Atlanta today. One Amtrak station in an awkward location. The train leaves once per day.
Bottom: Terminal Station in 1909, in Downtown Atlanta. One source reports that it was served by 86 trains per day in the 1920s. Union Station also stood a few blocks away.
When will our intercity rail service improve? Every few years there seems to be a little momentum then it fizzles away.
Here's the front view of Atlanta's Amtrak station. The entrance is a pretty little building. The overall vista, though, is dominated by a whole lot of cars and asphalt. Not a fun place for walking.
