Send Help – Early Screening
Just got back from the early screening of Send Help. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll keep this vague.
Sam Raimi doing Sam Raimi things. I’ll just say EYE. My friend even said a couple of times that you can instantly recognize his signature. And yes, I’m obviously a Raimi fan, so I’m not exactly neutral here.
I liked the movie.
The story feels a bit contrived here and there, but I can live with it. I really liked Rachel McAdams as a ruthless survivalist, and Dylan O’Brien as the asshole boss who hits a wall pretty quickly. I totally bought his desperation, especially when it comes to his “masculinity.” 😂 Both of them were great.
The set pieces were absolutely stunning. The effects were okay. The story basically works too, even if a few moments felt very “how convenient that character X is standing at point Y at exactly the right second.” I’ll let it slide. 😉
There is blood, yes, but it’s not going to knock a hardened horror fan out of their seat. And it doesn’t have to. It kept me tense the whole time, the ending wasn’t too easy to predict, and I laughed more than once.
All in all, it definitely feels like a Sam Raimi film.
I was honestly pretty entertained.
