Watched this show the day before yesterday and I quite liked it! It was enjoyable except for two things:
1) The nudity! OMG that shit was so fucking unnecessary. Like, the first nude scene was such a jumpscare. I'm talking about the "recruits taking a shower" scene. Like no kidding, but they straight up showed the front view of a naked man 😭 like WTF. Why the fuck did they think it was necessary to show that?!!! And it doesn't stop there—throughout the show, there are many random nude scenes, and I personally feel that they are super unnecessary and don't contribute shit to the story. So yeah, I HATED that.
2) I am actually not really interested or looking forward to S2. I feel Season 1 was enough in itself and could have ended nicely with maybe Cope realizing that yeah, he could do this and had proven himself, and then taking the out his mother provided him. I mean, his inner gay self also said this to him, and I felt it would have been good if he did that. Because now, the second season seems like it will have them fighting in wars and all, and yeah, I ain't really interested in watching all that. I liked this coming-of-age show, and I think I'm content ending it at that.
Aside from this, it was very fun watching the Marine recruits’ life through this series, and I also really liked the characters: Sgt. Sullivan, Jones, Hicks, Ray, and Slovacek.
Ernie & Emma.
That lineup is honestly hard to ignore.
Bruce Campbell writing, directing, and starring in it is already enough. Add Emma Raimi and Ted Raimi to the mix, and suddenly it feels like a tiny Raimi-Campbell reunion casually hiding inside an indie comedy.
The trailer has exactly the kind of weird I like. Funny, bittersweet, a little sharp around the edges, and not too polished. Glossy studio stuff can sit this one out.
Also spotted a few little Easter eggs, because apparently my brain just does that now.
