Swap AU.

Yuma, Shinigami, and the NDA as the Peacekeepers aka the villains, and then Yomi, Martina, and Peacekeepers and Makoto as the detectives aka the protags/heros.

Yomi in Yuma’s role and Martina in Shinigami’s role.

Then vice versa: Yuma in Yomi’s role and Shinigami in Martina’s role.

Personalities don’t change though it’s literally just these lads in the exact opposite scenario they were originally-

What shenanigans would issue.

Ideas. Hand them over.

So for your Swap AU, if Makoto is in the heroes’ side and Yomi is technically in Yuma’s role, then does that mean Makoto is the Chief of the Nocturnal Detective Agency?

And does that mean Makoto and Yuma will be related if they still look the same? Like twin brothers? Or two men that happen to look alike since that can be an occurrence in real life?

Huh. Good question!

Honestly I was wracking my brain on what the roles would officially be? Originally I was thinking for the main antags and protags swapping their places; not in personality, just in roles. So it would be like:

Yomi in Yuma’s role <-———-> Yuma in Yomi’s role

Martina in Shinigami’s role <-———-> Shinigami in Martina’s role

And that’s as far as I got to be honest. I only really just thought as far as they’d switch their roles (as in the protags being the antags and vice versa).

I do think it’s an interesting idea that Makoto and Yakou would be swapping their places though! But I think for the sake of my AU (and not straining my brain too much), I’ll keep it relatively simple and probably just have Makoto still be Yuma’s homunculus, so he’ll most likely is still human here!

Backstories for everyone will be fleshed out better at some point (I’m open to ideas by yall if you have any!) but my specialty is more with character designing (unless I have a really good idea for a story/rewrite, such as my SV Self-Insert/Rewrite, TC!Kieran AU, and some of mg remnant of despair AUs.)

I’m working on Fubuki and Yuma’s peacekeeper designs atm so I’ll get them, the rest of the detectives + Yakou and Shinigami, then I’ll get Yomi, Martina, and the other peacekeepers done as well and possibly flesh the story once they’re completed. :))

Yuma being a human living in the city of Homunculi in the Swap AU sounds so interesting and has so much story potential. Like that would imply maybe he is a survivor of the Blank Week Mystery and that’s an interesting take to do. Would he fear the Homunculi that he helped in creating (if he was even a part of the project)? Or would he also desire to protect them and keep them happy, but take it to the extreme?

Though I gotta ask, which personalities would Yuma have in your Swap AU? His N1 personality, or his amnesiac personality?

Ooo I like the idea of him being a survivor!

I don’t think he’d take part of or be involved with the project in any way, but as the sole survivor, he feels like he has this duty to protect the citizens of Kanai Ward and doesn’t want them to be wiped away - just like their originals had (so similarly to canon!Makoto in that regard where, as you pointed out, he has that desire to protect them but takes that to the extreme.

I think personality wise, it could be a blend of both!

At the start of his appearance, he has his amnesiac personality and putting up the front of a sweet and approachable leader (who let’s be honest doesn’t even seem the slightest bit intimidating at a first glance, especially given his height - love you Yuma :)), but around late chapter 3 and chapter four + when he has to be, he shifts more into his Number One personality - stoic, calm, collected, and eerily threatening (but never lets this side of him show in the public eye).

This is just in case you decide to have Yakou and Makoto swap places in the Swap AU: since their personalities are the same, it be absolutely interesting (and kind of adorable) if Yakou and Yuma had a more positive relationship as opposed to Yomi and Makoto in-game? Since they overall have the same goals (wanting to protect Kanai Ward and its inhabitants), and still have the same personalities.
