Solara is coming home! She's even prettier in person, even in shed! I can't wait to see her in a few days in her new skin! Now to attempt to use some self control and not handle her while she settles in! Wish me luck lol 😂

Hello! I found your blog five minutes ago and I've already learnt quite a lot! I recently got into snakes and reptiles I'm planning on learning a lot as I really do want to see a Rainbow Boa as a companion in the future. Do you have any tips on what I need to know before getting my new friend beside basic stuff? I don't really want to get a pet I know nothing about ^-^

Hello there!I’ll warn you ahead of time that rainbow boas are not a beginner species and while they can certainly be a suitable first snake if you’ve done sufficient research, they’re not in my experience particularly great pets. They’re more of a lovely display animal, and in the proper setup can be really beautiful, active, and willing to show off. They will require very specific temperatures and humidity and are not tolerant of substandard husbandry, so be ready to drop serious bank on a quality enclosure. Even tub setups, which are great for rainbows with their high humidity needs, will need some kitting out.Their temperament can also be a little unpredictable and they’ll need frequent re-acclimatization if you plan on handling them more than rarely. I’ve been tagged by unsocialized rainbows in the past with no warning, and it’s not the most fun experience.

Along with your reading research, I’d recommend seeing if you can connect with someone in your area who has a rainbow boa that you can meet and handle a little before taking the plunge. They’re beautiful snakes but they certainly are not for everyone.I hope that I didn’t discourage you and that you ultimately make the best choice for you!

ahhh!!

i know that nothing is likely wrong with her but fedex royally screwed up! mittens got lost en route to me this morning and ended up at a shipping center overnight (tonight) they're going to call me in the morning from the center she's at so i can pick her up! but in the mean time I'm WORRIED (losing my shit tbh). I've been on the phone freaking out with fedex and the breeder (sorry Dave) all day. I need to CHILL tf out. I know she was packed well and should be fine but STILL! DARN YOU FEDEX! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!

We just *had* to squeeze in a quick photo session before Solara starts her "settling in" period. I don't know how I'm going to survive not handling her for so long lol. She has the sweetest and most calm disposition of any baby I've held, which is a lot to say since she's in shed at the moment, along with having endured the stress of a car ride and a complete change of environment. Anyway, she commenced her isolation by promptly borrowing into her moss upon being placed in her new home 😂 I'm gonna miss that beauty! I can't wait to see how bright and gorgeous she is after she finishes shedding in a few days!
