Yesterday I posted this video.

I pretty much have said most of what I wanted to say in the video, so I won’t talk about that.

What I do want to talk about is the response.

I knew you would all be supportive of me, I knew you would all open your hearts and wrap me into hugs and tell me that I was finally home.

I knew that.

What I didn’t know was that so many of you would contact me, after just one day, telling me that it inspired you or gave you the final nudge you needed to come out (or are planning to) to your loved ones as well. That so many of you were in the same position, struggling to find some sense of hope when the world was trying to tell you there is none.

I came out because I realised that if I was getting so angry at the media, so angry at the public for trying to erase what really happened in Orlando, that I really needed to stop erasing my own sexuality first. It was absolutely clear to me that the time was now because of this -- I couldn’t help a community I so dearly loved by staying silent.

I do need to say to everyone else that being in the closet doesn’t make you a coward, or anything less than brave. We all live in a world that tells us that we were born wrong, it is not your fault that you are scared or that you live in an environment that is unsafe for you to be yourself. But please know that I am here for you, and so is everyone else in this community and we want to be there for you. Reach out. I can guarantee that somebody will reach back.

I’ve been overwhelmed and moved to tears by every single person who has told me they’ve come out since. I’m at work right now trying not to cry, but to think that I could have a positive impact like that just proves to me that speaking out matters. Every single thing, big or small, it makes a difference. I tip my hat to you, for being brave, for being courageous, and for reminding me that we are stronger together, and love will always win.
