you might need to write that essay bc EVERYTHING is apparently the new homestuck when literally the only thing that can be the new homestuck is life itself tbh (lbr we're on our way there)

IT LITERALLY NEVER WILL BE like okay I have a long opinion on this but it’s 1:30 am so here’s the short of it:

1. Homestuck was an indie, no-fandom title in some obscure corner of the internet. It’s discovery, and subsequent INCREDIBLE, OVERTAKING fame- like to everyone knowing about it, to celebrity interaction, to raising millions of dollars for a video game- was a ridiculous feat that made it from a one-in-a-million chance. No big budget game/show/ANYTHING compares even on this level, because part of Homestuck’s FUCKING RIDICULOUS overtaking was that it started from literally nothing.

2. HOMESTUCK CHANGED THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF FANDOM. People still call shit lyricstuck, sadstuck, ect without even knowing where the -stuck came from. I know people who never even read Homestuck that use the quadrant system of shipping. People who had never even read the comic could participate and utilize things the fandom invented. Like. Nothing has even come close to this since shit like OG Star Trek/Wars fandom in the 70s and 80s, X-Files in the 90s, ect. Homestuck changed how we experience fandom.

like there’s more to this but I get. so up in arms over “x is the new homestuck!” being shorthand for a big fandom that people dislike bc ppl are bandwagoning it, just, fuck directly off
