Another year at Las Encinas. Carla was repeating her last year as the provisor had figured out that she had cheated for one exam. The truth was, she did not mind as much as she should. Azucena had been kind enough to promise she would not report it on her academic record. Carla thought this new year could be a good opportunity for a fresh start. Last year had been a living hell, between what had happened to Marina and Christian, what her father had put her through with Yeray... It had been too much. And now Christan was back, and with him, the guilt. Seeing him with a cane, her heart ached. It was her fault. If she had not texted her father to tell him he was about to confess everything, then he wouldn’t have been rolled over.
And when he mentioned Polo... Her throat went dry. He did not know. Hell, how was she going to tell him? That was not something that should be announced in the hallways of a school. She bit the inside of her cheek, taking a deep breath. She was not good at that, giving bad news. Especially this one. Despite everything, she’d loved Polo and his loss hurt like hell. Carla swallowed the lump rising in her throat. ❝ I... ❞ Hesitation was clear on her features as she fidgeted with the hem of her shirt. ❝ He.. he is dead. It happened a few months ago, I... I’m sorry, I should have called you. ❞ But then again, she had been sure he wanted to have nothing to do with her, that he wanted to see her fall.
