That doesn’t stop her, doesn’t even make her hesitate. “Raine!” She’s banging on their door, interrupted bursts of knuckles against the wood. “Raine, get the fuck up!” She’ll give them around five seconds to open the door before she breaks her own rules and bursts in. She’s formulating a plan in her head already, and it’s one that needs utter compliance. There is no room, or time, for the pack to argue with what she’s going to ask of them.

dragon: how does your muse connect to fire?

it’s not really his element! but he likes the smell of it. and he smokes, not as regularly as he used to bc he doesn’t have money for cigarettes, but it’s a vice he’s still susceptible to.

guns. commitment. quicksand. growing old and ugly. dying alone. horned beetles. not having control over his life. never catching up to everyone after having missed six whole years of his life. the mascots at chuck e. cheese’s but he won’t tell you that. leeches. mumps. people who own guns. policemen. hell. mirrors at night. statues of mother mary where her eyes are very detailed. the prospect of never finding a single person who understands or accepts his complicated and self-contradictory nature. unconditional love. millipedes.

🍺+ What's is it with you and Hutch?

“What the hell are you talking about?” he laughs. “We’re old friends. Used to be best friends–whatever that means–but then we didn’t talk for a few years.” He takes a long sip of his drink and wipes his mouth. “There’s nothing between me and Hutch.” 

The worst (or best, depending on which way you look at it) part about it is he isn’t lying. No secrets to hide, no secrets to tell.

🍺+ why do you even like me?

he takes a slow steady breath, clamps down on the desire to wolf whistle in response. he knew he was getting drunk, but he hadn’t realized just how close raine was to toppling over that edge as well. they’d been so often like this recently.

because clover likes you. that’s the first response because it feels the most straight forward. they were special to clover, so they deserved a place in his heart. but that didn’t feel like enough anymore. those years without her had changed the pair of them. they had nights of laughter and tears. clover wasn’t the only thing tying them together.

because diego trusts you. maybe that’s a little closer to the truth, but still, it’s not enough. hutch has come to know diego well, knows his trust is hard-earned. and raine? he’s earned it. and that means a lot more to hutch than he let’s on.

“because,” he turns to look them in the eye. “you’re a good friend.” he wants them to believe this even though he knows they won’t. “even when you try not to be.”

They think for a moment of their mother’s open mouth and the glint of a Lance’s gun as he took aim at them for the very first time. They think about Diego’s eyes turning to cold glass. His mouth around their shoulder. His teeth smiling and smiling while he tears Grey apart. They have survived that kind of betrayal twice already. They’re not sure they’ll be able to do it again.
