So close. So close to making it a single month without being in pain. Scott’s plan had worked, the particles soaring through her keeping her stable. No more going on the fritz, no more losing control of herself. For the first time in a long time, she actually felt whole. The occasion called for a celebration. A quick trip to the “store” wouldn’t hurt, something nice and sweet to mark the occasion. The downpour of rain was sudden, but not something she couldn’t arm herself against with a simple umbrella. It was refreshing, being able to smell the rain and feel the moisture on her skin, not having it fall through her like some kind of ghost. If she had the time, she could walk through the city for hours, actually seeing what it had to offer and imagine what it looked like during the day. Then a familiar profile crossed her path. The nose and chin were the same, but this person was so much shorter, the coat they were practically dragging on the ground behind them in the rain. That couldn’t be... He had a beard the last time, another him, and now he was... Another alternate-Steve? “Steve...?” She flailed her free hand, waving at him to get his attention. If it was a mistake, then there were worse things to be embarrassed about. And it would be a test to see what ground they stood on. This Steve and her hadn’t exactly parted ways on good terms. It would be nice to get over that hump (called Scott) and at least be civil with each other.
