Sometimes as parents we let the fear of not being in control of everything in our kids life lead us to holding them back. Remember, we are raising them to live in a world of diversity and push-pull on so many fronts. Rather than making all the decisions for them, we must show them from little, that we support and encourage their critical thinking. We trust them to make good choices because we teach them how to think through things. Over the years I've had many conversations with my son, talking through various decisions that needed to be made. Even as a toddler there were decisions he could participate in, like meal prep. By explaining what foods do in the body with pictures and games, they learn to make good choices. Allow them to make the bad choices in little things and then talk through why a different way might work better, without criticising excessively. Each child comes into the world with all the potential they need to succeed. It's up to us as parents to demonstrate respect, kindness, clear thinking, creativity, or whatever it is. But it's also up to us to trust them to be their own fabulous person when they are not at our side. And then praise them when they have used that trust to shine. It's difficult not to pass onto them, our fears, our insecurities, even our cultural musts and must nots , but we can strive for a balance in understanding, accepting and self determination. Let them shine. Let them trust themselves to be their best self. They are the only future we have-- let's raise the. With kindness and trust them with the world, because it will belong to them in the blink of an eye. #children #parenting #raisethemwell #future https://www.instagram.com/p/B49WwumALiE/?igshid=ww5wpakmoskh
