Edwina quickly spots her and waves her over prompting Anthony (29, barrister) to turn and look at her.
When their eyes meet, Kate feels like she can’t breathe for a second. It is unreal to see the person she had spent many, many hours looking at so she could copy his likeness with her pencil. In her mind he had become almost fictional, so much a part of her world that she forgot he even existed outside of her phone and sketchbook.
She sees his smile drop when he first takes her in. She has a moment of worry – what if he remembers her from their match? – but there is no sign of recognition on his face. Rather it seems to her like he’s focusing all his available energy into his stare. She doesn’t think she has ever been looked at with such intensity in her life and she doesn’t quite understand where it is coming from.
Summary: Five months later she has a sketch book full of Anthony, 29, barrister’s hands, arms, and shoulders when Edwina calls her. “Didi, you know Anthony, the guy I’ve been seeing? I’d really like you to meet him.”And when she walks into the café, Kate sees a smile that really should not be as familiar as it is, directed at her sweet, innocent baby sister. (Kate sees Anthony's bumble profile and finds it very pretentious. It does not stop her from obsessively drawing his arms though. Until he starts dating her sister.)
