It confuses me when people use the turn of phrase "right side of history." Because what do you mean??? Are you actually saying that you're letting the potential opinions and morality of people over 50 years into the future dictate how you act? Are you on the political side you're on because you truly believe it is right, or because you want other people to look at you and think you're right?

It seems prideful, to me, to insinuate that history will look kindly on you. It looks kindly on no one. Even when there is a 'right side' to history, to certain moral issues, the people on that side are just as deeply flawed as people on the opposing side.

If you are going to hold a specific worldview, do so because you are convinced it is right and good and just. Why care about being on the 'right side of history' when 99% of us won't be remembered by history regardless? We don't know what the future will look like, nor what their morality and worldviews will look like. We don't even know what is going on with AI and that's happening right here, right now. Either believe in something for its own sake, or acknowledge that you just want people to think you're right even though you have no reason to believe you are.

Hyper what are your thoughts of the actor being cast for Severus Snape? Do you think it's going to be racist? Since every time (I think) there is a problem Harry would point out that Snape did it. And the fact that Harry's father, James Potter, is Snape's bully. So it would be like- not only James bully Severus for being a half-blood but also because his black!- .... Yeah... Thoughts?

iiiii eeeeeerm well...honestly ive been-staying out of it?? i dont...care about the reboot, i have no feelings towards it if i have to be honest. its just a cash grab and a last ditch effort to regain control of the world the terf created because many of the og actors are vehemently against her.

but, from a general standpoint, knowing the very basis of Snape...

he is one of the characters that should've NOT been race-swapped. for many characters, their race does not impact their character story or development. There are only a few characters that, if you do change their race; it impacts them greatly.

The fact that there are so few poc characters in harry potter, does not help.

Snape has a complicated story, a morally grey person who has done terrible things and said horrible things. Abused by his wizard-hating Muggle father and horrendously bullied by his own school mates, and eventually drove away his only friend with his BAD school decisions(hanging out with people who hated her just because of her blood purity and refusing to listen to her hurt about it) eventually becoming a death eater, aka a wizard nazi; joining a regime that only wanted the death of his friend that he claimed to love.

that, for me, only sounds like the actions of a very stupid, scorned, incel white man could take.

reboot race swapping is a fine line, sometimes-it works out *amazingly*, like with Annabeth from Percy Jackson, who was a white girl in the books and movies, but her being black in the show just-elevates her character, pushes her forward and makes every choice and her background far more impactful.

Snape being black now very much feels like a 'damn here you go', because we had very few black characters in the movies or books, i legit can only think of like-4 i remember seeing, and only TWO spoke, in prisoner of Azkaban, during the tea cup grim scene, and Kingsley Shackbolt, which i'm not even going to GET INTO how racist his name is like holy fuck(like bro, Cho Chang? The Patil girls? its like she asked the most racist people she knew what she should name her Chinese and Indian characters?? they are the most 'well fuck here you go heres the diversity you wanted' characters ever.)

but anyway, Snape being-so far-one of the only few race swapped characters just feels...very forced, and does not work for his character; they have this whole cast, and they chose...Snape...to be black, when he is one of the few characters with a very very exact description.

personally, if they wanted to race swap any of the professors, it should've been McGonagall, and maybe even sprout, not the one character that is under constant suspicion by our main character because hes a cruel bully to his own students who refused to grow up and refuses to see Harry ISNT James.

but yeah, i dont have an issue with race swapping-WHEN done right, and not just to make people of color 'shut up' because 'here, heres your character of color, go away and be happy' isnt good enough. alot of the time, poc characters are far more interesting and are often my favorite characters. but snape being black now isnt done with purpose, they're most likely not going to change anything of his story or back story or his school years or choices, so if nothing changes, if there isnt any-purpose-for his character now being black just to be black...its not a good choice, its an insult to people who just want proper representation.

Going through the new vineyard is very disorienting. After playing the game since its release I’m not used to there not being a steep hill down to the riding hall.

Also since I’m starting the story over again on my alt account it’s frustrating that it’s hard to keep the quests in order. Since they took off some day blockers it’s unclear what quest comes first. For example I was talking to Linda and she says Alex won’t arrive till tomorrow then after that discussion is finished Alex pops up in thin air and has a quest for me aswell as Linda. Linda still says Alex won’t arrive till tomorrow but Alex is right next to me talking to me about Anne and Lisa. More than mildly frustrating.

Then! I go to the circus and Ydris is wondering where his stupid clown is and the clown xin is standing right next to him. Then fin disappears down the road and we have to go get him.

Replaying the game just turned into the worst episode of Dora the explorer. My next alt account will be named Dora because wtf is going on with quality control.

You may say well it’s a kids game what do you expect? I expect it to have the same pacing as when I was a kid, where I had to work to get the things I wanted in game because it felt rewarding like I accomplished something. Example: the kalters, where I had to build trust with them to adopt a fjord. That was so rewarding!!! The feeling was great! I actually had to build rep-or with them and the fact that they weren’t friendly with me at first meeting felt so organic!

i’m just complaining, not yucking someone’s yum, but like. can y’all stop filling the RadioDust tag w RadioApple and RadioBelle and RadioStatic???? i’ve had to filter those out and like every five posts i’ll get actual RadioDust but for the rest it’s filtered content.

“couldn’t you just unfilter it?” SURE but then i might as well be scrolling through my “For You” instead of the actual tag i’m looking through.

y’all enjoy all the RadioApple and RadioBelle and RadioStatic y’all want, i won’t mind seeing the ships when i’m reading/looking at HuskerDust. it’s just irritating when over half the posts in the RadioDust tag are filtered out bc they’re not actually RadioDust or only have like, like these poll things i keep seeing?

i think it's really disappointing how interesting and complex of a character yul could be instead of being a one-dimensional bigoted racist archetype used as comedic relief.

it would've been so much better if he were a commentary on how the entertainment industry can shape people into genuine horrible people because of the toxic work culture and serve as a contrast to james, who left the industry (or atleast isn't as involved) and how it let him grow as a person, while yul has to stay because he has no choice for other sources of income and how his bitterness and resentment only continues to grow and harbor into the man he is now. imagine if a huge part of his resentment towards james was because of jealousy that he was able to escape the industry, instead of just mostly being because he poisoned him with mushrooms last season. what if that's why he was so angry that james tried to lecture him because james has no clue what it's like for him and that he has the nerve to question him when he feels james had the privilege of being able to escape. he's angry that someone who could relate to his struggles now is just like everyone else; an outsider of how bad the workforce he's in is and he's truly alone again with nobody to confide in because he hates the only other person who can relate, grett.

his relationship with grett is implied to be forced upon him and this could've been so interesting to explore. in the first few episodes it seems like he has genuine moments with her. what if a part of him actually loved her because he finally has someone who can relate, but because he was forced into this position he sees her as his captor who is the embodiment of how he will never have the ability to make his own choices. they got the right idea when he's talking to james on the bike, where he says "when i win the 3 million, i'll never have to listen to anyone", but it's ruined when it's just chalked up to him being like "i dont want a fat girlfriend cuz shes ugly and im not". it could've been a commentary on how k-pop stars are often objectified by their fanbase and their employers and how little control they have in their lives, especially being recruited at a young age (WHICH IS LITERALLY STATED IN THE SHOW!!! WHEN HE SAID A VIDEO OF HIM DANCING BLEW UP!!) and the mental toll it has. he's so cruel to her because of his frustration with his situation and a want for her to leave, both using her as a punching bag for his lack of control while simultaneously trying to make her leave him as a way to regain the little control he has over himself.

the biggest flaw of yul's characterization is how his bigotry is NEVER called out. yes, the point is that he's SUPPOSED to be unlikable, but nobody ever says he's being racist and why it's wrong (besides gabby when she defends grett), they say it's to make us hate him more but if THESE THINGS AREN'T CALLED OUT, especially to their young fanbase of young teens, it comes across as just out-of-pocket "dark" humor that relies of shock value to make the audience laugh, which insinuates that it's okay. he's literally just saying bigoted shit for the sake of it. you can write an unlikable character without making him drop obscenities every moment he's on screen. it's bad writing and an easy opt out that takes little effort to write and has become normalized in the show, esp. considering how the spanish va of yul improvised a racist line (calling james a monkey) and how they just let it slide because "oh well it's in character". if your voice actor is randomly saying racist stuff that's not even in the script and you allow it to slide, your team has a serious problem.

there's so many characters that are intertwined with the entertainment industry (riya, james, grett, yul) and so many of the ideas are THERE but they aren't dived into and these characters end up being one-note as a result, like yul and riya. the best we can do is infer but that can only go so far. maybe i'm asking too much for a total drama inspired series to have complex writing and nuance, but if you want to differentiate and distance yourself from total drama (esp. when it prides it's writing as being more complex than total drama) maybe actually put some effort into making complex characters and not using them as a puppet to make bigoted remarks.

I'm working on the little drabble additions for last year's GhostGaz Week prompts, but now I'm feeling weird so I'm gonna say this and then go play some video games.

I wrote an essay about the use of GenAI because I hear a lot of young creatives who are scared of the process of writing, anxious about their ability to make something they can love and be proud of. I tried to be very compassionate in that essay because being scared is scary. Looking up to your favorite people in fandom and seeing them so angry about AI, without a tangible and understandable connection, is intimidating.

On the other side of things, though: I Really Don't Care.

I've gotten so many bot and spam messages since posting that essay. I haven't answered them because I Don't Fucking Care About You. If the essay doesn't apply to you because you're one of those "hur hur hur i have power over you stupid writers" losers, I Don't Care About You. If you're someone who wants your chatbot to sound more like this or that author's voice because you can't be bothered to just talk to the author, I Don't Care. If you're someone who doesn't care about writing or art, and just want to scrape fansites to make a quick buck because genai is the tech du jour, I Don't Give a Single Solitary Fuck About You As a Person.

Outside of looking at how frustrated my friends and acquaintances are by your sheer lack of empathy, I don't think about you. I comfort my friends, encourage them, and move on. I grumble to myself about how difficult fandom is going to get when the wrong bot starts making money off of Disney IP, laugh to myself about the next Anne Rice Wars, and get back to writing. I get a spam hate message, I read it, I think "wow, you missed the point," and I delete and move on with my life. I write my fanfiction and share it with my friends and eventually with the public.

You don't get it - I do this because I love it. I enjoy it. This is for me.

You cannot kill me in a way that matters.
