damn chapter five was craaaazy
"Pick Susie as the Festival King?" DON'T MIND IF I DO
Me when Deltarune characters are all trans in some form:
deltaWOKE
Do you see. Do you understand
pack it up skittle squad
Finished Deltarune chapter 5 and my immediate thought was that wow, people are really really selective when picking and choosing lines for characters identity. Like yeah, no shit Ralsei is doing a gender in some way, but a lot of what they say makes sense for NB, genderfluid etc, not just transfem, though that is obviously a reasonable option. That being said, if youre gonna use some of the evidence people use for that, maybe acknowledge that Susie says the exact same thing and has extremely similar reactions in similar situations? Ive done my big rant about how the two of them are changing roles and rubbing off on each other, but I feel like I've not seen anyone mention that it would track for both of them to swap genders as part of that. The only time ive ever even seen that idea mentioned is someone calling someone else homophobic for it because they think Noelle is a lesbian, so saying her crush is transmasc is anti-lesbian, and someone drawing Noelle as transmasc was also homophobic. Because Deltarune fans suck shit
my deltarune fanart
Susie does the same except she asks for ralsei and her to trade genders
Susie grows the beard
Okay i've seen multiple transmasc evil jax and I think it's great but what about evil zooble that doesn't use any pronoun?
thinking about how just last month people were getting pissed off about the hidden object in the Tenna plush being a pipis and complaining that “Tenna’s his own character, why does everyone have to make everything about his relationship with Spamton??” (which can be a fair point at times in this fandom…)
but then this cutscene comes out and just reaffirms again after chapter 3 that Tenna himself makes everything about his relationship with Spamton (because Tenna still cares & worries for him, and was deeply affected by his relationship with him and how it ended without any closure)!! we’re just following his — and Toby Fox’s — lead here. Tenna and Spamton were created to be seen as a pair from their inception, because they were both based on the same character. Toby himself confirmed this in the 10th anniversary Undertale stream, commenting that Bob Sparker from the webseries Electricopolis “started his love of long-nosed characters.” Tenna and Spamton are quite literally made and written to be two halves of one whole.
and this focus on Spamtenna now is not just for fanservice, either, because Toby has been building up the significance of their relationship for years, intertwining their love story with some of the most fascinating lore at the heart of Deltarune and planting dozens of little obscure hints that he knew most people wouldn’t pick up on, at least since Spamton was introduced in chapter 2 — before he knew Spamton or Tenna would be well-received or liked at all (he’s talked about his concerns that people would dislike both of them).
Toby wants players to be invested in this relationship, which is likely part of why he’s consistently kept talking about them both since ch3&4 dropped, on his social media, in interviews, and in these newsletters, in a way he rarely does with other characters, especially outside main characters. he even included multiple Spamtenna references in the 10th anniversary version of Undertale of all places (and added a whole scene for Spamton, obviously). as much as some of it is fanservice, it’s clear to me that this is also Toby having put a ton of his energy and heart into these two characters’ stories and relationship with each other, and being really excited that people picked up on it and are just as into it as he is.
i do get that obviously not everyone is going to like Spamtenna, but that doesn’t change the fact that the creator of it clearly does, that it’s incredibly important to the very heart of who these characters are & why they were created, and that people are rightfully appreciating the passion behind it, as well as its significance to Deltarune’s themes and story. Spamton and Tenna as characters were made as a pair and their relationship was meant to be rooted for, and i think this cutscene just further proved that a lot of us have been interpreting that intent behind it correctly all along.
there's a lot of characters out there who would benefit from genderfluidity, bigenderism, agenderism, and so much more, but a concerning amount of you view being transgender as a binary thing with zero thought put into the nuances of non-binarity so we're all just stuck in hell while you argue about whether they're transfem or transmasc when so many other modalities and understanding's of gender are right there
I love you fern. welcome back
guysss quit shoving Kris into the binary. 😀 It's fucking. Not cool.
Transcript: genuinely wondering why ppl are turning Toriel into an alcoholic after she was shown drinking ONCE
I don’t have any experiences with alcoholics so maybe im not getting something others are, but to me it just seems like she’s drunk and did something irresponsible
Its repeatedly emphasized through both Deltarune and the Undertale alarm clocks that getting drunk and then acting recklessly because of that alcohol is a repeated pattern for her.
I don't know if I'd call her a full on alcoholic but these bits of lore combined with Kris' fairly resigned reaction leads me to believe this isn't just a one off event.
