Wednesday was a good day. Ramen from ramen-ya in the bazaar at Bally’s. It was outstanding. Broth and noodles with pork will have me visiting every trip. Definitely recommend. Fried pork dumplings were also awesome. Peace & bacon grease.

Aoshima 1:24 Idou Hanbai Ramen-ya street vendor truck plamo build intro
June 30th, 2016
I bought this kit last year at the 2015 All-Japan Hobby Model Show in Tokyo last September. This model is just begging to be lit by LEDs! I bought some SMDs from HDA Model Works recently. SMDs are very tiny LEDs.
Above you will see the clear parts for the lanterns. I will paint these flat white and insert an SMD into both of these lanterns that decorate each side of the truck.
The yellow 3mm LED at the electronics store in town was too expensive, so I just got some white 3mm LEDs instead. I dipped one into Tamiya X-24 Clear Yellow about 3-4 times and now it shines yellow! This will make a nice incandescent glow. I was thinking about just doing one overhead kitchen light, but I think I may install two.
Looking for parts that could work as lampshades, I found some neat chromed parts that go to a 1:12 scale motorcycle. I have three sets, so I’ll have a spare in case I screw it up. Those other parts look like pots, don’t they? I think I will try to use those for this model, too.
The chassis has a compartment that is large enough for a battery, so I have a battery pack that I will install inside. I also bought an on/off switch for the power. This will be a fun build! I won’t start on this right away because I have other projects to complete at the moment, but I look forward to getting started hopefully soon.
Ramen-Ya
My buddy and I came here on a whim one night to give their ramen a try. I had the miso tonkatsu. I typically don’t get miso based broth, but I felt like mixing it up a little. It was pretty good. Nice and rich.
My buddy had the shio black tonkatsu. Definitely more earthy due to the black garlic and more pungent aroma.
We also split an order of gyoza:
I’d definitely head back there to try the…

Do you have preferred ramen places in nyc? I LOVE real ramen and need recommendations!
I sure do! In descending order:
1. Ippudo NY in the East Village. It is, hands down, the best ramen in the city. Nothing compares. If you're visiting, take a deep breath and brave the wait; it can get gnarly, especially at dinner and on Friday/Saturday nights. But the best time to go and dodge the wait is to go alone, or with a very small party, at a time when most people are not free and not considering lunch -- like at 2:30 PM on a weekday afternoon. I go to Ippudo on my weekdays off and always alone, so I get seated immediately. But the Akamaru Modern and Hakata Classic are worth every penny and every second. Appetizers are good too. Awesome pork buns and ribs.
2. Jin Ramen. It's on 125th and Broadway and is still a bit of a secret, but word is getting out fast and it's getting progressively more crowded. It's slightly obscured by the 1 train subway station and a small place. Get the spicy tonkotsu or the miso ramen and ask for curly noodles -- they have a tendency to overcook the straight noodles. Every other element is well executed. Prices are better than Ippudo, and the ramen is almost as good.
3. Hide Chan ramen in Midtown East. Great ramen, very little to no wait time, and OPTIONS! You can pick your desired broth richness (which is gauged by fat content) and noodle firmness (soft to very firm -- go for the very firm). Not for the super salt-sensitive, because it's intense even by ramen standards. But if you're an addict like me, totally perfect. Weekday afternoons they have appetizer specials, like 2 for the price of 1 pork buns.
4. Totto ramen in Hell's Kitchen. It's Hide Chan's sister restaurant, and unlike Hide Chan's tonkotsu broth, Totto does a chicken-based broth. It's a bit lighter, but still fantastic. The spicy Totto ramen is peppery and excellent. They sear the pork chashu with a blowtorch, which is fun to watch and produces tasty results. It's a tiny hole in the wall and you will wait a damned while to get in, but the traffic lessens a bit during the summer. It's worth the wait, but if you're going to be waiting anyway, may as well go to Ippudo NY.
5. Terakawa Ramen in Kips Bay. Underrated joint, and not located in the East Village like most of the other trendy ramen-ya, so it's usually not packed. Not the best in the city, but the noodles are cooked to the right firmness and the tonkotsu broth is good (both critical). I used to go here after work all the time, and the servers are really friendly folks. Weeknight specials get you a draft Sapporo and a bowl of edamame for like $3 or something absurdly cheap by NYC standards. Go for the Mayu ramen, which is tonkotsu broth laced with black garlic oil, and be sure to get a side of their awesome gyoza.
palmapodaca replied to your post: What I want to scream at certain Yelp reviewers who go to eat at a ramen house and apparently expect something other than ramen?
There are ‘ramen houses’ in NYC? People can’t make ramen for 7 cents at home? What?
This shit is REAL ramen. Not the instant stuff. Real broth, noodles, veggies, etc. What do you think the instant kind is based off of? ;)
