Hey! What ever happened to your hunter x hunter au where the chimera and ants are separate beings, it looked like it had fun potential, what made you stop working on it? I genuinely what to know more about this au and what its called, and if kite still becomes a chimera and raised by colt. If chimera are still reincarnations like the ants were in canon.
Oh hi! I actually haven't abandoned that AU entirely, I just stopped posting about it publicly because I assumed no one cared about it. I'm very happy to know someone likes it! :)
Here's what I've developed since I stopped posting about it:
This AU has a very similar name (Chimeras vs. Ants arc) and is basically my expectations for what I thought the Chimera Ant arc was going to be like before watching it.
A general summary of the plot is: Gon and Killua arrive in the NGL instead of Ging’s whereabouts and meet Kite, an old friend of Gon’s absent father. They decide to team up with his band of chimeras hybrids and defeat the ants who wish to conquer the world. Little do they know that what they are getting into will change their lives forever.
There are also chimeras who sided with the ants out of cowardice, one of them being the Chimera King Meruem. He is also the mate of the Ant Queen instead of being her son (due to them now having zero relations). Their relationship isn't romantic in the slightest, it is purely for "geopolitical" reasons.
Here is art that I made of Meruem, plus redesigns of some other chimera ants: Rammot, Mosquito (now called Mosquo), Yunju, and Centipede (now called Cetepedor).
Meruem and Komugi are also still a couple, though they meet through different circumstances. In the second half of the arc, the ants are preparing to take control of the entire NGL and soon the rest of the world, and Meruem scouts the human villages for the perfect ambush locations, and he is accidentally spotted by Komugi. Gradually, they fall in love and Meruem starts thinking about abandoning the ants and chimeras to run away with her.

The chimeras (who now refer to themselves as hybrids as to not associate with their traitorous king) are a species native to the NGL that has existed for centuries as a peaceful and isolated species. They can be a combination of any animal, including humans. The Ant Queen didn't arrive until about 15 years ago, and has steadily been building up her population with a goal of taking over the entire world.
Phagogenesis still exists in some form in this AU, but instead of creating new chimera ants with parts of the creatures they ate, the ants instead gain some of the abilities of the people they consumed. For example, most ants are human-sized and have only four limbs. A few of them can also use nen.
Kite gets involved with the ants when he and a team of hunters were sent to the NGL after a 'biological disturbance' was detected there. They underestimated the power of the ants and traitor chimeras so everyone in that team except for Kite were eaten alive. Kite barely escaped and found refuge with the hybrids and formed an organization with them called L.A.C.A. (Legion Against the Chimera Ants)
I wanted Kite to have a similar fate to what happens to him in canon, so I had him get severely wounded by the Ant Queen to the point where he is a vegetable (cannot communicate or move). Although he slowly recovers from this over several years after the end of the arc. Colt is still the one to take care of him in this.
Neferpitou, Shaiapouf, and Menthuthuyoupi are now L.A.C.A. Guards. I have only drawn Pitou's redesign so far, but I have also made redesigns for her friends (in this AU): Colt and Peggy. Neferpitou can also use nen and is a conjurer type that can summon nen yarn.
Pokkle and Ponzu are also a lot more important in this AU (though they still both die!)
