By and large I think for most of my life I've avoided debates on the Ranma 1/2 characters' sexuality, especially seeing the changes in what labels resonate in broadly accepted fanon as well as general culture, but I'm gonna add my two cents and then shut up.
I think any debates about Akane's sexuality are largely a moot point. She in a relationship with someone who is a girl part of the time. And unlike Shampoo, she is not bothered by this fact. I don't really care about the minutiae of labels, and while I can give fans in the 80s-90s the benefit of the doubt and understand the culture they were coming from, I think it's deliberately obtuse to insist that she is straight these days.
Richard Ryley said it best in my opinion. In the first episode/chapter, Akane was not upset that Ranma turned into a girl. That's not why she called him a pervert. She was upset that he turned into a boy.
