chaotic day on set - malachi barton
malachi barton x fem!bsf!reader
warnings: kissing, teasing, suggestive content?, cussing
(i had to make this a netflix movie as disney just didn't fit for this. so just pretend malachi is now on netflix for this one.)
you were currently on set for your new movie, 'ever after us'.
ever since table read, you've all immediately clicked, while you and malachi only got closer during filming, which you didn't think was possible, given that the two of you have been inseparable way before the auditions even existed.
the cast:
lucy (you) – 18
new girl in town, observant, intuitive, feels everything too deeply. the one who starts connecting the dots before anyone else does. has weird dreams that turn out to be memories of past resets.
eli (malachi barton) – 18
camera-obsessed, dry humor, lowkey genius but hides it behind sarcasm. the first to trust you. there’s this subtle tension between him and you — like you’ve met before. (spoiler: you have).
leah torres (ella purnell) – 27
college dropout turned conspiracy podcaster. she’s chaotic but sharp — knows too much about Project Ever After. half the town thinks she’s crazy, the other half listens to her podcast in secret.
nate mccall (dylan minnette) – 23
ex-intern from the lab that used to exist under the lake. quiet, haunted, keeps journals full of redacted notes. might know exactly what’s coming but refuses to say.
arden li (maya hawke) – 21
artist / hacker / rulebreaker. paints scenes she’s never seen before — turns out they’re snapshots from previous timelines. probably the most ride-or-die in the group.
theo king (caleb mclaughlin) – 20
grad student who came back to dunbridge to study “temporal distortions.” he’s the logical one until things start getting personal. might be losing time himself.
maren (hailee steinfeld) – 25
former lead scientist’s daughter, technically not supposed to even exist. shows up halfway through season 1 like “you shouldn’t have opened that door.” total mystery energy.
the backstory to the movie:
it’s summer in the quiet town of Dunbridge Falls, population 3,000 — the kind of place where nothing happens… until something does.
one night, the sky cracks open. not like thunder — like reality itself. flashes of light. a sound that doesn’t belong in this world. then silence.
the next morning, people start forgetting things. streets appear where there shouldn’t be any. time skips. static in recordings.
lucy (you) moved there a month ago — you’re the new girl, staying with your aunt while your parents “figure things out.”
you meet Malachi’s character, Eli, a laid-back but sharp guy who’s been documenting weird stuff around town since before the “event.”
he’s part of a small friend group — each with their own secrets — who are slowly realizing the town itself might not be real.
the group finds an abandoned research station hidden beneath the lake. inside? blueprints and files labeled Project Ever After.
turns out, Dunbridge Falls is part of an experiment — a place built to reset itself whenever reality collapses.
and now, the reset isn’t working.
you start seeing flashes of another version of the world — one where you and eli already knew each other, maybe even loved each other.
but every time you remember too much, the world glitches.
the question becomes:
what’s real — the life you’re living, or the one you keep remembering?
it's always been your dream to be in a horror movie, and this is the closest you've ever been to it.
you always wanted to play the smart girl who survived because of it, not a character who was dumb and literally died cause of her stupidness.
malachi, on the other hand, was chill about it, he's been in a handful of movies, and shows, though this is his first netflix movie.
which leads you to now.
you arrived on set, about to go in, when someone said your name, making you stop in your tracks and turn around.
"yes? oh hey mal, good morning" you said, seeing malachi walk up to you.
"good morningg, ready for another fun day on settttt." he hugged you, letting go and opening the door for you.
"ladies first." the boy gestured for you to go in first, which you did, with him following close behind.
"it's gonna be a long day, i can already feel it." you sighed, looking at the clock, which read 04:37 am.
"yeah, but at least we are in this together." he tried to cheer you up, offering you his recently opened water, which you gladly took, taking a few sips before giving it back to him.
"y'know-" he took a large sip, "i wouldn't have survived this without you, the cast is great, but it helps that at least you're my age and we've know each other for so long, otherwise, it wouldn't of have been so fun here."
"yeah, i agree, you're also a fun person to be around." you gave him a grateful smile, which he gladly returned.
"okay, bye mal, see you in a few." you hugged him with a sigh, going into your trailer to change and then wait for the makeup and hair dressers to come in.
malachi has always since the start walked with you to your trailer, and then went to his own, directly beside yours.
just as you finished changing, you heard knocking on the door.
"come in!" you say, thinking it's the makeup and hair team.
"heyy, just checking up on my favorite girl! how you doin' shorty?" malachi came in wearing his costume, looking way too good for someone who just woke up half an hour ago.
"malachi! aren't you supposed to be waiting for the makeup and hair dressers in your trailer?" you ask him, struggling to button up your top with the fake nails you had on.
"well hello to you too. but yeah i was, until i got told that i should wait in your trailer instead and get ready here, so we would be more comfortable for our last scene today." he walked up to you, looking in your eyes before his darted down to your open top.
"may i?" he asked, seeing you struggle with the buttons.
"uh yeah. please." you gave him permission, holding the top from beneath, which caused it to pull down a bit, making you notice how unusually loose the shirt felt on you.
"oh, oops. i forgot to zip it up fully in the back." you blushed, pulling it up a little before finally moving your hand out of the way for him to help.
"oh, i can do that for you." he says, reaching back really quickly to zip it up, fiddling with the buttons in the front after.
"thank you mal." you smiled gratefully, your hands placed on his biceps as he worked on your shirt.
"wait, what do you mean our last scene today? which scene?" you ask, very confused.
"you don't know? our kissing scene is today." he stopped buttoning your shirt to look up at you.
"what? it is? i didn't know that! i haven't fully learned the lines yet, and i'm also not ready! i wanted at least a few days to prepare. what do i do now? oh shit, when am i gonna have time to practice my lines? this is bad, i can't do this." you said dramatically. you actually meant to freak out internally, but you said it out loud.
"relax babe, we got this. if you want, we can go over the lines together if that helps you, sometimes going over it with someone else is easier than doing it alone. trust me i know." he reassured you, continuing to button your shirt up, which by the way, was not that easy to do for some reason.
"thanks champ, i would really appreciate that." you said, blushing at the petname, even though you knew it was just his way of teasing you.
"may i ask you something though? if this doesn't make you uncomfortable that is." he asked, unsure if he should've spoken up.
"yeah, of course not mal. you're the person i'm most comfortable around with. what do you wanna ask?" you admit shyly, tilting his chin up to look at you, his eyes full of love for you, though you don't know that.
"uh, well, are you sure you're comfortable with the kiss? if not, i can totally talk to the directors and tell them you don't want to. we can always find a way to change something if you don't feel up to it or something." he rambled, not wanting his best friend to ever feel uncomfortable, especially with him.
"mal, it's okay. i really don't mind. it's just a kiss. we're both professionals. we can do this. if we can start a full on prank war on set, we can do a kiss scene. i wouldn't want it to be anyone else. and besides, we had to practice this for a month already." you both were very affectionate in the morning, as you guys were NOT morning people at all.
"yeah, you're right. now you wanna put on some music while we wait?" he asked, hugging you with a sigh, a content smile plastered on his face.
"uh, mal?"
"hmm?"
"my buttons." you reminded him, the last three buttons on your shirt still open.
"oh, right." just as he pulled away, the makeup and hair dresser came in cheerfully.
"HEYY, LOOK WHAT WE BROU-" amelie, the makeup artist, cut herself off after seeing you and malachi so close together, both in costume.
now it isn't anything new, you guys were always close together, some part of your bodies always had to be touching, but when malachi turned around completely, she saw your undone buttons and immediately thought something else was happening.
"what? why aren't you going i-" lillie, the hair dresser, asked. after she saw you two, she spoke up.
"did we just interrupt something? should we maybe... come back later?" she asked.
"i think we should, just call us whenever you're done with, well you know." amelie gestured to the both of you, turning around to step back outside when you finally spoke up.
"what? OH MY GOSH, NO NO NO! IT'S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE I SWEAR!" malachi panicked and tried to explain what happened, meanwhile you stood there, clueless as to what they meant.
"-AND I WAS JUST HELPING HER BUTTON HER SHIRT BECAUSE SHE CANT DO IT WITH HER NAILS!" you heard him say, still confused why he was so freaked out. until it finally hit you.
you didn't know why it took you so long to get it, but when you did, the blush that spread on your cheeks was very noticeable. you were speechless as he continued to try convince them he was just helping with the buttons.
"oh, so you've already done it and you helped her put the clothes back on?" amelia asked, smirking as she teased them.
"what? NOO! i swear i was just helping her button it up!" he defended himself once again, and if it hadn't been so early, he would've for sure flirted his way out of this, but malachi early in the morning with lack of sleep? not something you want to witness.
"relax, we were just joking, c'mon we gotta get you two lovebirds ready and out the door in two hours." lillie ushered you to sit down, but not before the boy finished buttoning up your shirt, then you went to sit down at the vanity chair by your desk, while malachi sat in another chair, beside yours, so you guys held hands as lillie worked on his hair, while amelie worked on your makeup, then they switched places, your guys' hands never once separating.
"okay, i'm done, lillie what about you?" amelie asked her co-worker.
"yeah almost, i just need to put some glitter in her hair and then i'm done." she responded, as malachi stood up, letting go of your hand in the process, but not before giving it three squeezes.
he's always done this for some reason, you never knew why, but whenever he held your hand, he would randomly squeeze it three times exactly, without even saying anything. and you never brought it up, thinking it was just something silly he did.
"okay, while you do that, i'm gonna get my water bottle from my trailer, i'll be right back." he told you three as he stretched, exiting the door with a quick 'bye'
"okay spill it, what really happened?" lillie and amelie looked at you expectantly, smirking as they did, the music playing in the background.
"what? nothing! he came in after i got dressed, helped me button my top, and he asked me if today's kiss would make me feel uncomfortable, and that he can talk to the directors about it if it does, i told him it's fine we're both professionals. we hugged and then you guys came in and for some reason started suspecting that we hooked up." you rolled your eyes at the end, blushing.
"well, it did look like it, but that's so cute and thoughtful of him! anyway, i'm done." lillie said, making you stand up and immediately stretch aswell.
"hey shorty, you ready to go?" malachi came through the door, his water bottle in his left hand, and his phone in the other.
"yep, let's go." you smiled, grabbing your script and phone, aswell as his script before walking out the door.
your guys' pinkies were interwined as you walked, not being able to hold hands fully because both your scripts were in the hand you were holding his pinky with, your phone in the other, searching for a good tiktok sound to use.
"okay, so the dire-" he looked up from the ground, being cut off by the sound of 'that should be me' by justin bieber playing on your phone as you sang along.
"that should be mee, holdin' your handd." you turned your phone horizontally, malachi now on display, as are your interwined pinkies, due to you holding the phone up in the air above your heads.
"are you forreal right now?" he chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief as he threw in a peace sign with his left hand, that's also holding his water bottle.
you only gave him a side-eye as you smirked, continuing to sing along until the sound ended.
"...what?" you asked, glancing up from your phone after feeling him look at you.
"i don't think you can post that." he said, gesturing to your phone that was still playing the tiktok you just recorded.
"why not?" confused, you went back on your phone to look at the video, thinking you looked bad or something.
"because we're in our costumes, babe." the boy elaborated, emphasizing on the 'babe' part.
he started calling you that after table read, when he found out that your guys' characters will date at the end of the movie.
malachi once called you that as a joke, and after seeing your flustered but confused face, he explained to you why he did, and... it just... stuck with him after.
of course he doesn't call you babe everytime, shorty will always come first, but when he's teasing, it just slips out naturally.
"okay? you do know that's not going to stop me right?" you say, typing 'otw to shoot yet another scene with my fav @themalachibarton ' in the caption before you posted it.
"of course it won't." he smiled, shaking his head as you arrived at the set you were supposed to start shooting at.
the morning flew by with smaller scenes- nothing too difficult, just little moments to set up the bigger ones later.
one scene had you and malachi arguing in character, which the director made you redo twice because you kept laughing at his fake angry face.
"you look like a constipated cat." you whispered between takes.
he broke right after, doubling over with laughter, the sound echoing through the set. "and you're supposed to take me seriously? no chance."
by 9 am, you two were running lines in the corner of the set while the others filmed their solos. malachi had stolen your water bottle at least three times, and you had smacked him with your script at least twice.
"stop drinking my water!"
"stop leaving it where i can reach it!"
simple moments like that made the long hours feel less heavy.
the late morning had you two shooting an emotional scene- no jokes this time. you had to cry while malachi's character comforted you. by the end, your eyes were puffy for real, and he stayed close, whispering, "you okay?"
you nodded, smiling weakly. "i'm fine. you're just... too good at that."
he shrugged, trying to act casual. "guess i care too much."
lunch break around noon meant sitting outside on the lot, eating out of plastic containers. you and malachi shared your fries, your knees touching the whole time without either of you moving away.
"longest. day. ever." you mumbled with your mouth full.
"you're telling me." he said, stealing another fry and earning a glare.
around 2 pm, everyone gathered around for scene 42, the kiss.
you stood right by the couch set piece, malachi standing in front of you, both of you trying to look calm even though your hearts were racing.
"alright." the director clapped his hands, "lets get this in one take if we can, people!"
easier said than done.
take one:
you and malachi leaned in, lips meeting softly for the first time. it was slow, sweet-
CLANG! a boom mic dropped right next to you.
you jumped, breaking the kiss, both of you laughing as the director yelled "whoever dropped that is buying everyone lunch tomorrow!"
take two:
you kissed again, this time with more confidence. malachi's hand found your jaw, tilting your head just right.
"CUT! wardrobe fix!" someone shouted mid-scene.
he pulled back, groaning. "seriously? my hand wasn't even in the way!"
take three:
this time, you were fully lost in it, his lips warm against yours, moving in sync, and then-
a huge sneeze from off set.
"they're doing this on purpose." you whispered betweed takes.
he smirks "guess the universe wants me to kiss you over and over again."
"malachi!" you shoved his shoulder, blushing, before they called for take four.
take four:
your lips connected once more, this time it lasted longer. you could feel him smile against your mouth right before someone cough-yelled "GET A ROOM" from behind the camera.
you pulled away, hiding your face in your hands, while malachi turned, pointing at the castmate, caleb. "bro, i swear-"
everyone started laughing, even the boy himself couldn't surpress a giggle, and neither could you.
take five:
this one was good- his lips warm and steady against yours, his hand holding your waist. it felt real. until-
someone's phone alarm went off. loudly. with 'baby shark' as the ringtone.
you burst out laughing into his mouth, completely ruining the scene. malachi groaned, dropping his forehead to yours. "out of all songs..."
take six:
you kissed again, slower this time. it actually felt like the one-
and then a prop light fell over with a loud crash.
"oh my god!" you gasped, breaking the kiss. malachi jumped, his hand gripping your waist protectively.
the director pinched his nose. "who the hell set that up?!"
take seven:
the kiss deepened, your hand in his hair this time. it was perfect-
until someone deliberately slammed a door open, scaring the hell out of you. you jumped so hard you accidentally bit malachi's lip.
"ow-" he pulled back with wide eyes, but then broke into laughter when he saw your horrified face.
"oh my gosh, mal, i'm so sorry! i didn't mean to- oh my gosh!" you rambled, covering your face.
"babe, it's fine, it's fine!" he laughed harder, holding his lip. "you just... bit me! what was that?"
you groaned, still apologizing as you both cracked up, making it impossible to restart the scene right away.
what you two didn't notice, was the cast, who smirked upon hearing the petname he gave you, a new plan in mind, still laughing at the lip bite.
take eight:
as your lips met in the middle, your hands found his shoulders, his lips pressing a little firmer to yours. it felt like the realest one yet.
until- the other cast members started singing a song you recognized instantly.
"babe and malachi sitting in a tree, k i s s i n g." they sang, emphasizing on the 'babe' part, just to tease you guys, which made your cheeks flare up instantly, pulling away from the kiss to look at them.
"oh my gosh." the boy said, hiding his face in your neck as he smiled, head shaking in embarrassment.
take nine:
you kissed again, this time softer, more natural. his hand slid into your hair, messing it up even more, while your lipstick smudged slightly at the corner of his mouth.
from behind the camera, someone called out, "malachi, you're supposed to kiss her, not eat her lipgloss."
you both broke apart instantly, laughing way too hard to continue right away.
take ten:
his lips brushed yours, slow, lingering. you kept going, waiting for the director to yell 'cut,' but it never came.
so you just... stayed there, kissing, until finally someone shouted, "alright, don't swap spit just yet!"
you jumped back, covering your mouth as malachi's hair stood on end, totally disheveled.
"you couldn't have said cut like... earlier?" he groaned, running a hand through his hair.
take eleven:
this one almost worked- until another castmate said, "they kinda look like the fish from spongebob."
malachi immediately pulled away, wheezing. "no way you just said that."
your eyeliner was already smudged from laughing earlier, now it smeared worse as you cried laughing. "stop, i can't breathe."
take twelve:
the kiss deepened, his thumb brushing your cheekbone.
someone in the back then said, "aww, shrek and fiona."
malachi pulled away, jaw dropped. "oh my god. never kissing again."
"yeah right," you teased, cheeks blazing as you wiped at your ruined mascara, chuckling silently.
take thirteen:
you both tilt your heads in the same direction which ruins the take.
"malachii!" you whined. "you were supposed to turn your head to the right!"
"oops, sorry, i forgot." he said in a tone that indicated he's not sorry at all, chuckling as he did.
"i already told you once, i don't like the left side." you were referring to the first time you had to practice kissing, when he turned his head to the left and you had to tell him you disliked that side.
"yeah, i forgot. let's just retake it." he smirks, clearly loving your reaction.
"aha- it can't be that hard to remember which side to turn your head" groaning, you lean your forehead against his shoulder despite yourself.
"actually, with the way you were kissing me just now, it's hard to remember anything other than your lips on mine." he teased, half joking, half serious.
take fourteen:
the kiss went longer this time. his hair stuck up everywhere, your lipstick smeared into his cheek.
"well, now they're mr. and mrs. barton," someone announced dramatically.
malachi broke the kiss, shaking his head, cheeks burning. "bro, you're dead. actually dead."
take fifteen:
you were so close- his lips pressing firmer, your hand in his hair- until another castmate yelled, "did malachi accidentally turn you into a vampire?"
"what?" malachi pulled back, confused, only to see your lipstick all over his mouth.
"oh my god-" you covered your face, laughing while a crew member handed him tissues.
take sixteen:
this one lasted longer, the best one yet, until someone teased, "woah, don't undress her in front of us."
you gasped, pulling back, tugging your blouse back into place, askew from his hands.
malachi groaned, tossing a cushion from the couch at them. "shut up!"
every time something tiny ruined it. a sneeze, a laugh, a crew member coughing too loudly, the cast continuing to tease you two relentlessly. at some point, you two weren't even pulling away fast anymore- you just sort of groaned against each other's mouths, forehead to forehead, waiting for someone to yell 'cut.'
by take 57, at one point, you were just standing there, lips still pressed together, waiting... until finally malachi mumbled against your mouth, "are we... supposed to stop?"
"i don't know," you whispered back, refusing to move first.
"uh, yeah, guys?" the director's voice broke in. "you can breathe, you know."
your lips were tingling, swollen from all the retakes. malachi licked his bottom lip with a wince, muttering, "okay, officially the hardest scene of my life."
the director threw his headset down. "forget it! we'll finish this tomorrow morning. you two look like you've been making out for hours anyway."
you groaned, hiding your face in malachi's shoulder, while he just smirked, throwing an arm around you like he wasn't embarrassed at all.
you pulled away to look up at him, your neck hurting because he was slightly taller than you, so you had to look up while you kissed the whole time, then suddenly- flash.
you both blinked toward the sound, catching one of your castmates grinning with their phone out.
"ohhh this is going on the wall of fame." they teased, showing the picture: you and malachi standing next to each other, hair and makeup wrecked, lips equally red and swollen, looking like you'd just crawled out of a makeout session.
"delete that!" you yelped, reaching for the phone.
malachi, on the other hand, leaned over your shoulder to look at the photo and smirked even wider. "nah, keep it. vamp and i look great in this one."
the cast lost it, chanting 'vamp, vamp, vamp' until you swore you were going to melt into the floor.
malachi smirked at you as you two walked side by side, scripts tucked under your arms. "sooo, should i start bringing garlic bread to set now, vamp? just in case you get hungry again?"
you shoved him lightly, rolling your eyes. "shut up, it was an accident."
"mhm, sure," he grinned, leaning in like he was whispering a secret. "i still got the scar to prove it." he pointed dramatically to his bottom lip.
"there is literally nothing there."
"oh, but i felt it. the betrayal. my first on-screen kiss and my co-star tried to eat me alive." he clutched his chest like he'd been wounded.
"mal-" you groaned, hiding your face, cheeks burning.
"nah, it's cool. i'll just start calling you vamp. has a nice ring to it."
you gave him a deadpan look. "i'm not answering to that."
"oh, you will. imagine it... 'yo vamp! ready for set?' ... see? it works."
"you're the worst."
"and you're my favorite vampire." he winked, clearly enjoying your flustered reaction.
you caught your reflection in a window: lips pink, a little puffier than usual. malachi noticed too, grinning as he bumped your shoulder. "matching battle wounds."
"shut up." you mumbled, cheeks hot as you opened your trailer door.
"see you tomorrow, vamp." he winked, disappearing into his own trailer right next to yours.
the next morning, you dragged yourself onto set with oversized sunglasses and a hoodie, trying to avoid attention. but of course, the moment you walked in, everyone's eyes snapped to you and malachi.
"well, well, well. if it isn't mr. and mrs. barton," one of the cast members called out, waving the photo from yesterday on their phone.
"oh my god," you groaned, hiding your face in your sleeve.
malachi, of course, was thriving. "good morning, vamp," he greeted loudly, slinging an arm over your shoulder before you could escape. "sleep well? or were you practicing your biting technique?"
the cast howled.
"don't call me that!" you shoved him lightly, but your cheeks burned.
"what? it fits," he grinned, leaning down to whisper so only you could hear. "you left a mark on me yesterday, shorty. i'm still waiting on my apology."
you gasped. "malachi!"
"what? i'm just saying," he chuckled, tugging your hood back so your flushed face was on display for everyone. "careful guys, don't get too close- she bites."
"ohhh, vamp strikes again!" someone yelled.
another castmate added, "i better start carrying garlic around."
and the one with the photo? they had made it their phone background. every time you looked their way, they made sure to show you, smirking.
malachi only fueled the chaos, smirking like the little menace he was. "i like the nickname. vamp and shorty. has a nice ring to it, don't you think?"
you shoved him again, but your smile gave you away.
the makeup team had tried their best, but you could still feel it- your lips a little sore, tender from all the takes yesterday. malachi showed up on set with his hair finally tamed, but when he smirked at you, you noticed the faint puffiness still there too.
the set was dead silent. no jokes, no interruptions- everyone had been warned.
you and malachi stood in place, both nervous but calmer. he squeezed your hand before stepping in. "just us this time, yeah?"
"yeah," you whispered, heart racing.
"aaaand action!"
the kiss landed perfectly. soft, steady, natural. no laughter, no interruptions, no messing around. just the two of you.
the director finally yelled, "cut! perfect, that's a wrap on the kiss scene!" and the whole set erupted.
the cast started clapping, a few even whistling. someone from behind the camera shouted, "finallyyy! it only took 57 tries and a new day."
another co-star leaned forward with a smirk, "nah, you two been practicing off set, huh? no way it looks that real otherwise."
"don't lie to us," another teased, "that wasn't acting, that was free therapy."
malachi groaned, running a hand through his now slightly disheveled hair, "y'all are annoying,"
"annoying? please. i'm just saying, if my lips looked that swollen, i'd at least own it."
"i mean, i did tell you guys yesterday to save it for the honeymoon," one of the older cast members added, making everyone laugh.
you buried your face in your script to hide your blush, but of course someone noticed. "ohh look, she's shy now! but five seconds ago she was kissing him like she meant it."
"better be careful," another voice called out "fans are about to start planning a wedding."
malachi glanced at you with that smug half-smile then looked at the others. "good. then you all can be bridesmaids."
the entire room burst out laughing while you smacked his arm, lips still tingling from the kiss.
as the laughter from the crew died down, the director walked over, script tucked under his arm, giving you both a long look.
"that was... convincing," he said slowly, almost suspiciously. "almost too convincing."
you blinked, trying to keep a straight face. "uh, thank you? we were just... y'know, acting...?"
the director raised an eyebrow. "mhmm. acting." his eyes flicked between your swollen lips and malachi's messy hair. "you two sure you're not rehearsing off set?"
he really thought after all the practicing you both did in your trailers, you would practice privately aswell.
the crew snickered in the background, making it worse. malachi crossed his arms, smirking. "maybe we're just that good."
"good?" one of your co-stars chimed in, "bro, that was like, a whole marriage license on screen."
"facts," another added. "the chemistry was so real, i thought i should step out and give them privacy."
you groaned, hiding your face in your hands. "oh my gosh, you guys are insufferable."
the director chuckled, patting malachi on the shoulder before walking off. "just keep it professional, okay? ...or don't. either way, the fans are gonna eat this up."
malachi leaned down close to your ear once everyone went back to work, voice low. "see? even the director ships us."
"malachiiii." you shoved his arm, whining.
he smirked. "what? i'm just stating facts."
an hour later, you were once again paired with malachi.
not that you minded, but the endless teasing would leave you blushing so much, your cheeks started to hurt from all the smiling.
during a dramatic line read, the speakers suddenly blasted the titanic theme.
"kiss her like jack kissed rose!" someone yelled.
you cracked up, pushing malachi's chest away. he just winked and went, "what? i can commit."
it was honestly just pure chaos for the rest of the week, and the next few after weren't any different.
as the final week of filming rolled in, the 'ship' energy was unavoidable.
- someone taped a sign to malachi's trailer: 'mr. vamp'
- another castmate taped a sign on your trailer next: 'mrs. barton'
- fans camping outside set swore they saw you two leaving together every night (technically true, since your trailers were next door.)
- the cast had an inside joke jar, where every time someone called you 'shrek&fiona,' a dollar went in.
when they wrapped, the director gave a speech. but right at the end, he added, "and to our lovebirds... may your chemistry make me rich at the box office."
everyone clapped. malachi bowed dramatically. you wanted to sink into the floor.
a week later, promo started. first joint interview, and of course the reporter went there.
"so... about that famous kiss scene. fifty seven takes? care to explain?"
you groaned. malachi jumped in first, leaning casually back in his chair.
"yeah, what can i say? vamp here likes making me work for it."
the audience gasped, laughing out loud.
you smacked his arm. "you're the one who couldn't keep a straight face!"
he smirked at the reporter. "she bit me."
"by accident!" you shouted, flustered.
he leaned closer to the mic. "sure... accident."
the clip went viral in hours.
- twitter blew up with #ShrekAndFionaEnergy and #TeamVamp.
- edits of your 57 takes surfaced, side-by-side with malachi's smirk in the interview.
- someone compared the leaked groupchat photo to a real wedding pic- it racked up millions of likes.
-one fan tweeted: "they're not acting, they're practicing their vows."
even the official movie account leaned in, tweeting: "catch the love story on screen... and apparently off-screen too👀."
between press tours, you and malachi were still inseparable.
-caught by paparazzi sharing headphones at the airport.
-malachi buying gummy bears at every gas station stop, saying 'for vamp'
-a castmate posted a tiktok from backstage with the caption: "mom & dad are fighting again."
and no matter where you went, the nickname stuck.
the final interview before the premiere ended with the host asking: "so, are you two... you know?"
malachi grinned. "you'll have to ask vamp."
you hid your face in your hands, laughing so hard you couldn't answer.
and of course, the internet decided that was confirmation enough.
after the last promo interview, you and malachi crash on the couch in the green room, scrolling through your phones. the internet is flooded with edits- airport tiktoks, behind-the-scenes clips, even slowed-down moments of him calling you vamp.
"oh my god." you groan, shoving your phone at him. "they literally made us look like a couple in a fan edit. with the notebook soundtrack."
malachi watches it, smirking. "kinda accurate though."
you throw a pillow at him. "shut up."
he shrugs, totally unbothered. "hey, i'm just saying- the internet's never wrong. shrek and fiona, remember?"
you roll your eyes so hard it hurts, but before you can snap back, he leans close, grinning.
"besides... what if they're right?"
your brain blanks, cheeks heating- but before you can react, he jumps up, yelling about snacks and leaving you sputtering on the couch.
outside, the crew catches you flustered as hell on camera. fans? yeah... they don't miss a single second.
malachibartonsangel speaks:
this one was longer than expected!
also the movie name and plot was made up by me so please don't judge.😭
to be honest, the cast was very random, i picked the most random people, which i apologize for, but it's not important to the story anyway.
i'll continue to like mention or talk about this movie i made up 'ever after us' in my future one-shots, unless i say otherwise.
not proof read!!
thank you for reading, i hope you enjoyed it!
hope you have/had a good day.<3
i was scribbling, playing around with the colors.

Sour Melon Cookie
Another random cookie design born of my dreams while I was out of town and playing with some of my brushes, I like this one a lot, she looks like she'd taste really good
also played around with some filters and gradation maps. I was bored out there, but she's cuuuuute
