My Unpopular Dragon Ball Opinions

(I actually have no idea what the level of popular these opinions are! I am not involved in the fandom and just kind of rewatch the series every now and then but don't talk a lot about it like I do other stuff so...)

I have never watched Dragon Ball and have no interest to. Nothing against the series, just that I originally watched DBZ as a kid and that's the show that has all my favourites so I always skip DB when rewatching the show.

I love the show! But also acknowledge it's crazily sexist. Practically every female character with a major role is "annoying" and needs to be constantly saved by one of the male heroes.

Following on from that, Pan and Bulla should have been fighters and at least one of them should have become a Super Saiyan (Pan because she trained or Bulla because she should be a natural at it like Trunks and Goten).

Following one from that, Trunks and Goten being able to turn Super Saiyan as kids with practically no effort was a bad idea. It made light of a legendary transformation. Not to mention it didn't make sense - people say it's because their parents were Super Saiyan's during their conception except Vegeta only achieved Super Saiyan after concieving Trunks.

DBS is entertaining but really does not manage the same storytelling and stakes that DBZ achieved. It also did way too much rectonning that takes away some tension from DBZ (like the potara earrings fusion for example).

The Frieza saga was my favourite, but I also hate Kai's dub voice for Frieza. It just isn't the same level as intimidating as the Funi dub and just feels like the voice of a cringe comedic henchman.

I hate the endings of DBZ and GT. I don't understand why the "happy ending" for the show constantly involves Goku just happily ditching everyone.

Gohan was my favourite character as a kid. So I was really excited when it looked like he was going to take over as the main character and very disappointed when they went back to Goku... As an adult, Vegeta and Gohan are tied for my favs so I'm slightly more accepting.

I like that Gohan doesn't train but still has natural talent. However I disliked the way DBS started him off stupidly weak. Like either stick with the idea that he has a natural reserve of power or don't, otherwise it feels inconsistent.

I hate the idea that either Goku or Vegeta has to be the best. I just don't like the overall idea where there has to be one best person. It'd be much more interesting if they were pretty even and it was a case of they keep losing and winning fights back and forth over time.

I hated the ending of Black Goku. I hate any series that makes a big deal of saving something (in this case, Future Trunks' world) but then destroys it off anyway. It would have worked if it was an excuse to bring Future Trunks into the current timeline but instead they send him to be a double in another universe... And it just feels really cheap.

I like most every Super Saiyan transformation. Except Super Saiyan 3. I just find that one so pointless and hate the general design for it.

I love all the main ships but in order of my favourites it goes: Vegeta and Bulma, Gohan and Videl, Krillin and 18 and Goku and Chi-Chi.

Storm is my favourite character from the 70s X-Men line-up, I think. I think some of this fondness comes from seeing her in extended media, to be fair. But Storm does the same thing Doctor Strange does: they basically speak in poetry as they use their nearly magical abilities. Storm is a mutant, true. But she also feels like she'd easily work if you changed her to just be a weather controlling mage or a real goddess. I like Thor and Doctor Strange, so I like Storm for the same reasons.

I don't like Chris Claremont's X-Men much, so I still can't really read too much about her in the comics. But I can appreciate the character nonetheless. The ability to control the elements, make the rain pour down and tornados come down and lightning strike her foes! Snow and Ice and Wind and Air and all the things produced by nature are hers to command! I'm sure I'm exaggerating a bit, but weather control is amazing! I liked Weather Wizard at DC for these reasons, too. The weather is fascinating, and the elements make things even cooler.

PS: Colossus is probably my second favourite 70s team member. Banshee is up there too, but he leaves too quickly for me to be able to give him a perfect ranking. But Colossus is a sensitive man with great strength. I kind of feel like I enjoy that archetype, especially since I think people used to use it to describe me as a kid. I have a low pain tolerance and a deep emotional sensitivity sometimes, but I've been able to break pencils in half before. I remember doing that once in elementary school. Also, I just like that Colossus presents soviet representation. The eastern bloc of socialist countries get no comic representation during the cold war.

This is not exactly fandom, but I wanna say this somewhere and here's the least weird place so

I'M SO HAPPY THAT FINN GOT A BUZZCUT??????? like Idfc if he's pulling it off or not or etc etc but it's just... He's been an actor for so long and his hair always plays a big part in the characterization of his parts (and on his persona) and despite still being an actor he's focusing a lot on his music now so??? It's cool, it feels like a "WHY NOT???!!" decision. I don't care if he has a bigger reason behind it, but I feel that he doesn't. It's just autonomy over his appearance, which is a rare moment in an actor's career and he's probably enjoying it while being more on the musician side. His curls will grow back, human scalps are capable of producing hair even when we cut it or shave it 😀 yayyyy!!!

He's living the end of the *being Mike Wheeler* era of his life and it must feel big. Becoming an adult WITHOUT being famous and deeply linked to a character/an idea of you already is. You go, boy!

Also the Choose the latter (take two) MV is so funny to me because he keeps singing with a resting bitch face for the entire rollercoaster ride, ugh I love this boy he's hilarious

I see SO MANY of the Rottmnt × ATSV crossovers being with Mikey and Miles, which, fair enough they are both overlooked by others and are super creative. HOWEVER let me propose an idea...

Miles and Casey Jones Jr. being bffs!!!

Let me explain (some) not only have they seen people they love die (Uncle Aron and F!Mikey/F!Leo/[possible F!April/F!Donnie/F!Raph]) AND they both aren't supposed to be living the way they are in the universe they are in (Miles being bit when he "wasn't supposed to" and Casey Jr. being sent back in time) and universal barriers being broken for them to get where they are in their stories.

Those were just a few and I'll attach ss of some more I wrote down. (plus a fake tweet I made for fun)

Why do y’all assume that a friendship is ruined when it turns romantic?

Do people honestly think you kill a friendship just because you want to kiss them, now? If anything, a friendship is REQUIRED for a romantic relationship. If you’re not friends with the one you’re in love with, then good luck because it probably won’t last long. There’s a reason why long-lasting relationship say their partners are their best friends.

Idk, I just see this a lot when it comes to ships. A good example is Bonnie and Damon from TVD. A lot of people holler about “they’re perfect as friends” “no, their friendship will be ruined”. Listen to me, true friendships don’t have an expiration date. Even if y’all go on a date one time, become friends with benefits, get married, WHATEVER, you’re friendship should still be intact no matter what stage y’all go through. If it doesn’t, then it probably wasn’t a stable and real friendship from the get go.

Honestly, if Bonnie and Damon were a canon relationship, and they broke up or whatever, I think they would be fine. it would take some time, of course, but at that point, they’re both adults and have gone through so much with each other. They will go right back to being best friends, and they would’ve continued being best friends during their romantic relationship.

Besides, there’s a reason why there’s a trope called friends to lovers. Duh.
