A lot of Isshan have a very formal way of speaking, because spationaut common tongue is an evolution of Isshan trading language which is itself a very formal version of Isshan dialects. They are very casual when they speak in their native language.

The Captain has a very formal way of speaking because he's just Like That.

honestly, I think the most important thing in the radio isotope, besides the characters, is the spaceships. Little bubbles of life and warmth in the cold deadly space between the stars, often the only sparks of life for hundreds of thousands of kilometers.

Sure, faster than light travel exists, with wormholes, but most spaceships can't go from one star system to another with only one jump, and the wormhole generator has to recharge in between jumps, a process that can take up to 3 months for VoidBreakers like the Imperator.

During your travels, the ship is your home, your only protection and your whole world. Obviously, you want to take very good care of her. Most spationauts talk about the ship they travel with like a person; they swear she has a personality, and often have superstitions and small rituals to keep the ship in good spirits. This is way more pronounced on singularity-powered ships, as it is thought that singularities can become semi sentient

#im currently modeling the Imperator and I have a lot of Thoughts about her #about the people who live on board #the bounty hunters and the permanent crew and how both groups share this pride and loyalty to their ship #loyalty to the Emperor too of course but both the Imperator and the Emperor are thought as one entity #also spaceships are cool and often underutilized #idk i like my space operas to deal with the visceral loneliness and vulnerability of traveling in space #random ri thoughts #radio isotope

The Emperor is like a horse girl if the horse was a twenty kilometers long spaceship powered by a black hole and the girl was a two meter tall murder robot

honestly I think the radio isotope has to be a graphic novel. I'm an artist first, writer second and I'm much more comfortable with visual storytelling.

I mean, when I think about it it's pretty obvious which form the story should take but when I started writing it I never thought I'd one day have the skill to just... make it a comic

Anyway I'm still making steady progress on the wenn and Emperor comic and I really really want to keep making comics like this, maybe try my hand at some longer stories to get used to long form storytelling before I tackle the Big one

despite having raced all around the Eternal Warden star cluster and having built his entire reputation on his skills as a pilot, the Lieutenant doesn't have a piloting license.

He had one, but he lost it somewhere and never bothered to have it replaced.
