Scattered thoughts on Toumyu Tokyo Kokoro Oboe
This written mess isn’t intended to be a guide as others have so helpfully done, but instead a loose (and possibly misguided?) interpretation of certain scenes and themes that struck me while trying to make sense of Tokyo Kokoro Oboe.
Much of my focus will be on THE GIRL, Ota Dokan and yamabuki. Toumyu’s been a feast of testosterone, and still will continue to be so, but to finally have a feminine presence not only appear, but make such a HUGE impression is just wonderful.
(Spoilers beyond this point!)
This fandom has essentially ruined me
I’m not sure if the kind of love I want exists. The kind of romance where wonder and imagination rule, where I’m not indulged but looked at with reverence and awe because my mind is so cherished and beloved to the person who loves me because of instead of in spite of my nature.
The kind of love where we can stand, wrapped in blankets of stars and bathed in moonbeams while we hold hands and realize that our love is as infinite as the cosmos themselves. The kind of love that is not only all-encompassing and consuming but one you know won’t explode and devour you or fizzle out anticlimactically. Soulmate shit.
It’s cruel, to be able to have the capacity to imagine what this kind of love can look and feel like, to be able to describe it through stories, all while feeling this undercurrent of tragedy because I can’t bring it to life. It only exists in stories.
But it’s so fucking sad, isn’t it? That so many other people with this imagination are also feeling it just as intensely, able to describe it and express it through stories in so many different worlds and ways. All the while being forced to live in this sterile world where vulnerability is discouraged and we’re told to grow up and create realistic expectations for the people in our lives.
To all of the dreamers out there, the ones longing for the kind of love they haven’t found yet and are starting to wonder if it even exists at all, please don’t give up. It’s there, I know it is, in the pages of the stories we write, and I have to believe that if it’s capable of living there, it can exist outside of fiction.
And you know, failing that? You can come live with me in Neverland where we can become pirates and mermaids and never grow up.
my feelings right now, but a lot darker.
i'm feeling conflicted lol.
about taemin yeah. just his attitude i guess.
what is he trying to present in his life, what is he trying to achieve? is it that he's already met his goals so now he's just like whatever?
the "oh, they're just tired and overworked" excuse ain't sticking no more.
they are grown ass men, just maybe men that had to grow up faster than other people, but in a lot of people's eyes (mine included), they are adults.
taemin isn't acting his age. what does he want? what is he doing now?
ugh my thoughts are all over the place. but mainly just like. i've read so many fanaccounts from like concerts and stuff, and it mentions him just seeming so... bored. and unfocused. and cold (like always). and half-assing the dance moves and
idk
stuff like this drives me nuts
i'm not sure what i think or how i feel about all this but i do know that it annoys me. a lot.
he's never been quite good with fans or people or fanservice. the way he treats them... i dunno. it leaves a lot to be desired. pretty much all of shinee is this way imo. but shawols will deny it with all their worth tho.
of course i can't be sure since i've never seen them, and this is only through my own speculation from what i see through my computer screen, but i feel like i've seen enough of the same thing that it's just. i cringe. it makes me cringe.
the stage him and the off stage him are different. obviously. but maybe not THAT different? and the tv him is obviously different. almost like, really different.
and this goes for pretty much all idols, of course.
and god the misconceptions people have. i've had this feeling, this itch, from pretty early on in joining kpop fandom that shinee isn't as close as they make it out to be. tv shows, sment, themselves. i feel they live their lives together, but not together. like they may do all the same things and may live in the same house but they aren't, not really. probably because ALL their personalities are so polar opposites and stuff.
ugh ok stopping myself before i do a complete deep analysis on shinee OTL
i dunno why i'm even thinking about this. sighs
but this is his fucking job okay idk. he might not be enjoying it, but idk. idk what to think.
i feel like he needs to grow up. his cuteness won't last forever, tbh. he's gotta get something else going for him.
he needs to develop a solid, strong personality. and if he really has one, he needs to show it.
