Choose Me, Pick Me, Love Me: A Short Story
This is just a random love story that... I don’t know. I was in the mood for writing. It’s just a short chapter that I’m not sure if I will continue but yeah XD Have fun reading I guess, and I’m sorry if it’s not good XD
Wish I could get a little undrunk, so I could unlove you.
The girl curled into herself, her palm covering her mouth, trying to stifle her sobs. She should have known better, or maybe she did but decided to ignore it. If she was being honest, she had been hoping for something different. She thought this was different, that she was different. But it had been hard. Everything she did seemed inadequate and she was close to giving up. It was taking everything in her to not just say fuck it and let go, because without him, what was she? Empty. Invisible.
She leaned back, her head hitting the back of the cupboard with a gentle thud. Closing her eyes, the tears streamed down her face as she tried her best to remember all the good times they had. She knew it was time to let go, but maybe she could handle it for one more day. The past few months have been amazing. Every single second had made her feel like she was floating on cloud nine, and she was high on it. Her memories lingered to the first time they had met. Surprisingly, she had made the first move, and she had never done that before. He was special.
“Look, I’m telling you, that quiz was just a tri- ACK!” Textbooks went flying everywhere as the girl slammed into a wall. She stumbled back a few steps and promptly fell to the floor, landing ungracefully. When was that wall ever there? She looked back up and gasped, her face slowly reddening. “A-are you okay?” A shy smile accompanied that question, as the boy extended his hand to her. With a slight shaking of her head, she quickly grabbed the stray textbooks and tried her best to stand up. The moment she leaned on her right ankle, it gave way with a sharp pain, causing her to fall back onto the floor. “Fuck,” she whispered to herself. The boy crouched down with a worried expression and turned his back towards her. With a slight lift of his lips, he gestured at her to get onto his back.
Maybe it was the pain pushing her, or maybe it was the way her heart was beating fast. Either way, she slowly held onto the boy’s broad shoulders and lifted herself up, wrapping her legs awkwardly around his waist. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, feeling embarrassed that he was put in that situation thanks to her clumsiness. She leaned her forehead onto his right shoulder, hoping the ground would swallow her up, but it did not. Instead, the boy kept walking towards the nurses’ office, with her on his back.
She heard the door being opened and gently, the boy let her down on one of the unoccupied beds. Once again, she whispered, “Thank you.” He just gave her a fleeting smile, and turned towards the nurse to explain what had happened. The next few moments were a blur for her as the nurse rushed to get an ice pack and made her eat several graham crackers. All she could focus on was the boy leaning against the door, with a slightly worried expression on his face.
She had to admit, he was handsome. He had the type of face that one would walk past at first, but then doubled back. With tousled brown hair and deep blue eyes, it was easy to get lost in his gaze. But at the same time, he was the type of guy who was probably not aware of his looks. The girl remembered seeing him around school, but he was always with a small group of friends and he did not talk much. In fact, that incident was probably the first time she heard his voice. Her eyes lingered on him for a few minutes, before realising that he too was looking back at her.
With a blush, she snapped her eyes away towards the nurse who was pushing a glass of water into the palm. She quickly thanked the nurse and drank the water. I hope he doesn’t think that I was being creepy. How long was I staring at him, anyway? She internally chastised herself for getting too lost in her own thoughts. After a few more minutes of fussing, the nurse allowed her to leave the office, though she would have to walk with a slight limp and was advised to stay off her ankle as much as she can.
Hobbling out the door, she almost fell face forward when a gentle hand grabbed her upper arm. “Be careful there. Here, let me carry your bag for you,” the boy said with that infuriating slight smile that made her heart flutter. She bit her lip and slowly nodded her head. She slowly passed her bag to him and held onto the hand that he offered, both heading towards her classroom. There, he helped her back onto her desk. “So….” The boy gave a bashful smile. “I’m sorry for bumping into you. I hope you feel better and… yeah.” His fingers drummed on her desk for a short moment before turning around.
Should I? I should. Yes, I really should.
“Hey,” her voice startled her a little bit, especially since she had been quiet from the moment she stared into those eyes. The boy paused and turned around, cocking his head curiously. She cleared her throat and decided to go for it. What was the worst that could happen right? Letting it all out in one go, she rushed the words out of her. “Do you maybe want to grab a meal with me? This weekend?”
Silence. Possibly for a few seconds, but it felt like eternity to her. She could feel her fingers start to shake, and gripped them together hard.
He smiled and she felt her heart flutter all over again. She could not possibly be falling for him… right? It’s just a crush. “I would love to,” he replied.
“Great! I’m Blair Willows.”
“Skip Herthauzer. And it’s lovely to meet you.”
