Had an idea for a ranger superstition:
When the chain of the oakleaf necklace breaks, your next/current mission will end in disaster.
This disaster can be avoided by either giving the mission to another ranger or requesting backup. In other words, presenting the commandant or any other ranger with your broken chain and oakleaf is like a 100% solid argument for someone to either take over or join the mission.
From the very first page, Ranger’s Apprentice has always meant a lot to me, and it still does now, so I’m incredibly saddened to find out our dear John Flanagan has passed away. My heart and thoughts are with his family and friends 🤍
It was my dream to meet him one day, to tell him how much his stories meant to me, but I’m going to have to resort to doing it this way, in the hopes that my words will reach the place where kind souls like his go to.
I first received one of the brotherband books as a birthday present when I was young. I had never heard of the series or the author, but I loved the characters and the story from the very first read. I was practically begging my parents to buy me every single brotherband book, and after that I devoured all of RA. It was such a joy every time a new RA or BB book came out, and I’m incredibly grateful to have been able to experience the joy and anticipation of waiting for the story to continue.
The world Flanagan has created will forever remain my favourite. I found a home in it, comfort in hard times and a place to dream away. Because of it, I met this amazing fandom. I’m a firm believer we’ll keep Flanagan’s legacy alive through our artworks and writing <3 I love you guys 🥰
Rest in peace, dear John 🤍 Thank you for bringing these stories to life 💕 We’ll take good care of them, I promise.
Lonely ranger this, orphan ranger that. What about rangers with kids? Give me a ranger dad™ showing up at the gathering with two little kids and "sorry, guys, my wife really needs a break" and everyone is so delighted because "look at those cuties, you need to bring them next year". What about two best friends assigned to neighbouring fiefs? Really, they work more in tandem than alone - "You want to talk to the ranger of this fief? Sorry sir, which one do you mean, the short one or the shorter one?" Give me the biggest extrovert who hates being alone in his cabin, so he does all of his paperwork alongside scribes at the castle, and thanks to that, is literally the only one who is up-to-date with his paperwork - "What's your secret with the paperwork?" "You need to find someone to suffer with you." Give me a ranger with a partner and kids and apprentice, and a cabin by the woods that is never empty.
Do y'all think Halt ever had to teach Will to watch his facial expressions. Like making sure Will doesn't blow his cover by laughing at the dumbass bandit who just ran into a tree
Moreover, did that training involve Halt telling Will increasingly terrible jokes just to make sure he can keep a straight face
Moreover moreover, is this why rangers often drift to deadpan humor
Halt O'Carrick
I didn't expect my day to start with the news that our Head Ranger, John Flanagan, has passed away. As I shared it with others, I then got to know he passed away two months ago.
Dear John, thank you for all you've done and for the world that you created. Ranger's Apprentice helped me when I felt lost and still means a lot to me. You'll be greatly missed. Rest in peace, beloved Head Ranger🍂
