last one before I end my siege. how does Gale’s living space change once Elenion becomes a part of it? :] does Elenion decorate? clean? nest/add their own comforting clutter?
okay i love that you asked if elenion cleans because now i can tell you part of what's going through their mind during gale's act 2 romance scene:
"oh gods, gale wanted to show me his home, he wanted to share this with me, that's so sweet i—"
*narrowing their eyes at the sight of a small mountain of books laying open on the floor and a haphazard stack of even more books with a candle on top of it*
"i... am going to ignore all of that for now and let myself worry about it after i find out if i'll actually get to move in with him instead of having to watch him die! he's lucky i'm already in love with him :)"
because see, elenion's brain and his journals may be messy and chaotic, but he doesn't like for his living spaces to be. he loves collecting silly little trinkets and comforting clutter but it all has a place, his bookshelves at his own house have a system and things go back where they're supposed to be when he's done with them. keeping the world around them clean helps calm the storm in their mind.
so yeah he moves in and immediately just takes over the bookshelves and reorganizes them by genre and author like a library would instead of. whatever kind of nonsense system gale had that only he could understand. and then every single week he's like "gale. babe. sweetheart. darling. my muse. love of my life. why have you left a pile of books in the middle of the staircase again?? <3"
and as for decorating and adding their comforting clutter! in my first fic, guiding star, this little sentence i wrote seems like a really small thing but it's there for a very specific reason:
...starlit nights on Gale’s balcony (their balcony now, he reminded himself)
which is that in those first few tendays living together, elenion keeps unintentionally calling the tower "gale's tower", "your tower", not "theirs" or "ours". because while they may have lived in waterdeep for nearly half their life, it still never really felt like home. so even after he's brought in all his instruments and tacky souvenirs (that he swears have cultural significance, thank you very much) and intricate brightly colored wall hangings and random artifacts he's collected, he's still struggling with the idea that he can call the tower his home. gale eventually picks up on this and suggests that they go shopping to redecorate the tower together so it can truly feel like theirs. this definitely results in them buying too many stained glass suncatchers and throw pillows, and then building a little reading nook together beside a tall window that's enchanted to reflect whatever sky/weather the owner wishes.
