I'd say that you're a Gryffindor with strong Slytherin tendencies. (If you take the Gryff bias out of the quiz, you'd probably be a Hatstall; you rank so many Slytherin answers higher than usual, and some of your Gryff ones run into that "oops, Gryff bias" issue.) There's a bit of a Puff streak in Q4. Ravenclaw's your last-place House.

Kara's Sorting

I sent a full sorting to Pottermore analysis a few week’s back, but tumblr cut off about half of my answers and I just wanted a more accurate analysis. I sent these in through submission yesterday, but tumblr again cut off my answers.. I don’t know what’s going on with tumblr. So I’m just blogging it here. In my heart I feel that I’m a Slytherin with a good dose of Ravenclaw in me with a dash of Hufflepuff and I just wanted to see how that is reflected here. I feel that there are a few anti-Slytherin biased questions/answers on here. Example, in the “which would you rather be question,” if the only Slytherin answer is envied or feared.. than I don’t think those answers are fair, as I’m certain many Slytherins wouldn’t want to be either… maybe respected, but not feared.

Oh, yeah, I think the quiz definitely has problems with an innate anti-Slytherin and pro-Gryffindor bias. (The pro-Gryffindor bias is especially bad because it tends to happen heavily on questions 3 and 4, which count for the most. When a Gryffindor-primary answer is the #1 answer for EVERY HOUSE and is given by a minimum of 25% of any given House despite there being 6 possible answers, when Gryff's 2 answers on a question = over 3/5 of all answers despite there being 7 possible; when the top 3 creatures are Gryffindor (in the order that Gryffs get points for them!) - there's a definite major problem with the Sorting Hat having that bias. Add to that things like Slytherin being the ONLY House to get points for hexes and jinxes (pretty sure the Gryffs would like them as well), Slyths getting feared (which no one picks), and Slyths getting a TON of Q5s with answers that absolutely no one will choose (seriously, if an answer is dead last or #3 among everyone including the Slytherins, there's a major problem with that answer.) The quiz also has anti-Ravenclaw (imitated) and anti-Puff (trolls) questions, but the overall lean is being pro-Gryff/anti-Slyth.) However, envied is probably more popular than you'd think: it's 4th of 6, with imitated being far less popular. (Imitated and feared are the worst. However, Slytherin does get secondary weighting on praised, which helps it; Ravenclaw has no such aid, making this question the absolute worst for would-be Claws.) 

Tbh, I don't think this was intentional. I have a theory that because JKR is a Gryffindor, the Sorting Hat is 100% accurate for her - and that she's given many answers Gryff weighting because she would pick them, without realizing that EVERYBODY would pick them regardless of what House they're in. I think that some things being Gryff is extremely problematic anyway: personally I would make ghosts a Ravenpuff or Huffleclaw answer, and give Gryff an answer that would be much less popular (say, replace trolls with giants and you have a Gryff-weighted answer that wouldn't be chosen nearly as often.) Meanwhile, Slytherin gets a TON of Sortings based primarily on "yay water!" and doesn't have nearly enough answers to demonstrate cunning. (Gryffindor also gets some of the best illustrations: for example, the path through the woods is definitely prettiest and the best drawing of the four, and even people who never pick "adventures" have said that the illustration is most appealing. Although I disagree on this one, a lot of people have also said that "The Bold"'s dragon illustration is the best on that question [I looove the card for "The Wise," although I choose "The Great" as my answer.]) Meanwhile, Slytherin's answers and illustrations can be unappealing: that "Draw wand/stand ground" one, for instance, is pretty horrible, what with the giant thing attacking and all.

Puff > Slyth > Gryff > Claw. Your explanation for picking the Puff box is the answer that virtually all Hufflepuffs give for picking it. (Most people who don't pick that box say either that there has to be a reason the animal's in there or that they're afraid of being attacked.) The Ravenclaw box is very commonly last because it has that downside. Four goblets, pick one: Inky black potion, with visions>Purple liquid that smells of plums>Silvery, diamond liquid>Golden liquid In the end the Black potion won out, because of the visions. The other potions didn’t really seem to have any apparent gain if you drank it, but the black potion alluded to visions.

This is the most common reason Slyths give for picking this (it's a polarizing potion: the visions are either a WANT or a DO NOT WANT thing.) I would love to know the effects that the other potions would have if ingested. Flutterby flower produces a scent to attract you, what scent would that be?: Sea>Parchment>Home>Fire It was a close call between the sea and parchment. I love the smell of new books, so initially I almost went with that one. However, it’s been so long that I’ve been to the beach that I forgot what it smelled like. When I came to that picture I had to think about that smell, and I realized I like that smell best because I’m a water person and it reminds me of swimming. A beach-side house would be the best place for me in the end.

Question 3:

A troll is gone berserk in Headmaster’s study at hogwarts, pick (in order) what you will save from his/her office: Merlin book>Cure>Records That question threw me, it just seemed like the odd question out. In the end I went with the book, because it is old, written by Merlin and there’s probably few (if any) copies of the book left. The cure wasn’t that important because I assumed there are notes on the cure elsewhere, and who really cares about those records? I bet that would take the most time to rescue to, as the school is old and they’ve had a lot of students, so many books and records you’d have to carry out… you’d probably wouldn’t have time to save the other two things.

Ravenclaw primary, Slytherin secondary. (Slyths don't care about the cure, and prefer book>records>cure.) 

Well, you're supposed to assume that each and every item is irreplaceable -but most people who rank the cure last do so because they assume that there should be notes somewhere (or that the Headmaster is alive and should be able to re-create them.) I personally agree with you on the records, as do most people: cure>book>records is the #1 answer for this question and book>cure>records is the #2. This question does suffer from the Gryffindor bias - CBR is the #1 answer for every House. Hufflepuffs, who like the records, and Slytherins, who rank cure-last, tend to suffer most from this.

Again, MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THIS QUESTION. THIS IS THE WORST QUESTION EVER. Trusted is chosen by ~50% of Gryffs, Puffs, and Claws (despite Claw not getting any points for it) and is Slytherin's #2 answer (after envied) although Slytherin also receives no points. Trusted + praised = nearly 2/3 of all given answers, and trusted + praised + liked = over 3/4 of all given answers. Envied is #4; imitated and feared are incredibly unpopular. This is the worst question for Ravenclaws. I think they must get points for another option besides imitated, but whatever it is, they don't pick it! (If they get points for praised, it's not showing up - Gryffs and Slyths would get more - and I haven't yet found another choice that delivers points to 3 Houses, so it's more likely that they get points for envied, which would make this the absolute worst for Ravenclaws (and would also mean they don't pick their own answers - imitated is their #4, envied their #5. At least Slyths pick envied sometimes!)  Most difficult to deal with: Boredom>Being Ignored>Loneliness>Hunger>Cold I’m 50/50 with boredom and being ignored.

This answer is the #1 answer of every single House, even though Hufflepuff and Slytherin don't get points for it. Over 75% of Gryffs, 50% of Claws, 35% of Slyths, and 25% of Hufflepuffs choose it! Basically, the question's not as good as it could be because these results are so very biased. (It would be even worse if I had more Gryff and Puff Sortings! Records-first answers are least common, with records>book>cure being the absolute worst - meaning that Slytherins, who put the cure last, and Hufflepuffs, who like records, are relatively disadvantaged.) 

What would you rather be? Praised > Imitated > Liked > Trusted > Envied > Feared

Again, this question is problematic, but your answer isn't quite as bad. There is a big problem with using it to figure out if you're Gryff or Claw because right now Ravenclaws only have one answer associated with them (if they have another, they're not choosing it) and because Gryffindor has the top 2 answers (praised + trusted = nearly 2/3 of the answers overall!) So I'd consider that most people wouldn't place imitated anywhere near the top (it's usually last or second-to-last in ranked Sortings), and that it's Ravenclaw's #4 answer at the moment - Claws go for trusted, praised, and liked before they pick it. (Trusted is the most problematic answer: over 50% of Claws give it but don't get points, about 50% of Gryffs and Puffs pick it, and it's Slytherin's #2 answer even though they don't get points.) This is actually the single worst question on this entire quiz because of the weight it gets and because it's so lopsided.

So you're actually pretty well-split. You probably lean slightly more Gryffindor than Ravenclaw overall because of Q3/4 (which are worth more), but you have to balance that with the quiz actually having a pro-Gryffindor bent, particularly on some of those Q3s (your cure order and praised are both answers that are tilted to Gryffindor and are therefore problematic - it's hard to determine what you should be when an answer is such that it doesn't differentiate. If people from all 4 Houses pick the Gryffindor answer all the time, is it really a Gryffindor answer? I don't think so - I think that it's a problem with the quiz having answers that are way too appealing for everyone.) 

For the Slytherin vs. Hufflepuff debate, you have more Slytherin answers than Hufflepuff - but you also have more Slytherin options ranked last than Hufflepuff, so it depends on how you want to look at it. Again, you have to consider that certain questions are biased against one House or the other (most Q5s are anti-Slytherin in nature; trolls, draw lots, the instrument are naturally anti-Puff.) 

Going straight by "How many answers do I have for each House?" it's Gryff #1, Claw #2, Slyth #3, and Puff #4, but I'd call you a true Gryffinclaw Hatstall (though I doubt you'll ever see one - they're ridiculously hard to get, accounting for only about 0.03% of all Sortings.) But if you take into account the quiz's biases, I'd say it's about an equal split between the two (the least-biased question set would give you "being ignored," a Slytherclaw answer, with a Q4 that's at least going to be partially Gryffindor.) There's a slight edge to Gryff on Q2, but that's balanced by the Claw edge on Q6/7.

Thirdeyelid's Ranked Sorting

The first time I took the test I was a Gryffindor/Slytherin Hatstall. My original test answers are in bold (I think; my notes died with the harddrive they were on; I'm fairly certain about all of them except q5.)

First off, this is a great Hatstall to demonstrate how bloody weird Gryff-related Hatstalls are. If you check out my spreadsheet, things like a Slytherpuff or a Slytherclaw Hatstall always make sense: they go back and forth between the 2 Houses, with the answers pretty evenly split. But this one looks like it ought to be outright Gryff - 2/(3)/4/(7) are all Gryff vs. only 1/(6)/7 Slyth! There's no question it should be Gryffindor. (Even if you mistook your Q5 answer and it was a Slyth-based answer, it still shouldn't be enough to Hatstall.) But Gryff-involved Hatstalls tend to be so strange compared to other Hatstalls that part of me has wondered wtf is up with Pottermore's scoring algorithm in relation to Gryffindor.

Both your cure ordering and this question fall prey to Pottermore's natural pro-Gryff bias on these questions. These are horribly, horribly weighted: trusted is picked by over 50% of Ravenclaws and is also Slyth's #2 answer, while CBR is the #1 answer of every single House and picks up 75%+ Gryffs, 50%+ Claws, 35% of Slyths, and 25% of Puffs. Both questions have answers that are just way too disproportionately popular to be fair (and Ravenclaw in particular is really screwed on the trusted question, since imitated is the only answer with a clear 'Claw link and it's not even attractive to Ravenclaws. On ranked Sortings it consistently places last or second-to-last overall.) As I've pointed out, Gryff has issues with having all of the most popular answers; trusted and praised have heavy Gryff weight and account for over 60% of all responses (and I have the fewest Gryff/Puff Sortings, so if I had equivalent numbers of Gryff/Puff Sortings that percentage would actually increase by a large amount.) This is especially problematic because of the weight given to questions 3 and 4 in relation to the rest of the quiz.

I would say you're definitely Ravenclaw - very, very Ravenclaw #1. I'm slightly surprised you haven't seen more Gryffindor Sortings; it's definitely a possibility. Hufflepuff's definitely in last. 

But, yes, I definitely agree with your self-assessment. Taken as a whole, you're definitely much more Ravenclaw than you are Slytherin (or Gryffindor.) Even if most people think you should be in Slyth, your answers don't agree: they're very heavily Ravenclaw. A few are Slytherin - hexes and jinxes in particular stands out - but overall, you have (to have all 6 questions on 6/7 going to Ravenclaw is something!) 19/27 of your questions give some points to Ravenclaw either primarily or secondarily. Compare that to only 6/27 at-least-partly-Slytherin answers, and you have a very definitive Sorting. (Heck, you have more Gryff-containing answers than Slyth, with 8/27. There might be more Slytherin-primary than Gryff-primary, and the Slyth ones tend to be more on questions that count for more (3/4) than the Gryffindor answers - but they're really not that far apart.) Meanwhile, you just have a TON of Ravenclaw.

Ravenclaws and Slytherins really get screwed on this question because imitated and feared land at the very bottom of everybody's ranked Sorting; only about 10% of Ravenclaws give the answer they "should," which is imitated.

Werewolves is Gryffin(puff?), with a LOT of Ravenclaws looking like they give this answer but not actually getting points from it; merpeople is Slyth; vamps Slytherpuff; centaurs Ravendor; goblins Slytherclaw; trolls Puff. And yeah, ghosts tends to be first for most people, trolls last.

I'm actually surprised you haven't been seeing more Ravenclaw Sortings. (Have you gotten Being Ignored, particularly in combination with learn everything?) I can see the Gryff and the Puff, but there's a pretty solid Ravenclaw element that the Sorting Hat hasn't brought out yet. ignorant/tre e or potion/cure ordering or being ignored or maybe even praised/learn everything or change appearance/Flitwick or nightmare or Muggle confrontation/dawn/white would do it, in varying combinations. You're a pretty even mixture of Gryff, Puff, and Claw; some of the Gryff-biased questions would really push to Gryffindor, particularly in combination (cure ordering plus ghosts is a Gryff-major, Claw-minor combo.) 

So you're really split pretty equally in three. This is one of those cases where I'd focus on questions that matter more to you/which welcome letters speak to you.

Hello :) I took Pottermore sorting quiz more than once - I got 3 times ravenclaw, 2 times slytherin and 1 time Hufflepuff. I think that's pretty accurate, but still I am just curious and would like to see where would I end If I would take the WHOLE test. I mean - I feel like a Ravenclaw, I love that house, I am creative and unique but sometimes I just feel that I might be not intelligent enough and that I might've not be able to solve the Eagle's riddles. That's why I am also thinking about slytherin. I am ambitious, VERY ambitious, but on the other hand I don't think that I use any means to achieve my ends. I like to play fair and that's why I'm a little bit of Hufflepuff too. I mean at the beginning I might seem like a Hufflepuff, but when you look into my personality I'm more into ideas and goals than people. but let's see what you'll say :)

Oooh, ghosts is hard. I believe it actually gives points to Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff (but the order is debatable.) By percentage, the most Ravenclaws give this answer - but Ravenclaw has the tendency to answer things that don't actually belong to it (like werewolves.) I do think Ravenclaw has at least some affinity with ghosts, though, as do the others.

So it's Gryff/Claw/Puff > Slyth > Gryff/(Puff?) > Claw/Gryff > Slyth/Puff > Slyth/Claw > Puff. And nobody likes trolls. 

So you split between Gryff and Claw for question 4.

No problem! 

I would call you Ravenclaw overall - most definitely Ravenclaw. After that, your 2nd place House could be Hufflepuff (based on total number of Hufflepuff answers) or Slytherin (based on the fact that you tend to give Slytherin answers for Q3 - but they're in combination with primary Ravenclaw tendencies), so I'd call Hufflepuff 2nd place over Slytherin overall. Certainly, there are question combinations that would give you any of those three Houses, but I would say Ravenclaw 1, Hufflepuff 2, Slytherin 3 looks like the result from the quiz.

For what it's worth, I know a lot of Ravenclaws who've been Sorted there and said they don't feel clever enough - but who does? Ravenclaw isn't just the House for intelligence, it encompasses open-mindedness, imagination, wit, and willingness to learn, not just natural book-smarts. If you couldn't solve the eagle's riddles every time - well, I probably couldn't, either, and I doubt that anyone could. (Remember, there's a reason that 'Claws congregate outside the door - they can't do the riddle on their own and it becomes a group learning exercise!) I think this quiz would definitely put you in Ravenclaw most of the time, so if you've always loved Ravenclaw, don't feel at all guilty about being part of the House.

 IDEA FOR STARS AND MOON:

I've seen that there are many theories for this question so here's mine:

I'm sure that the stars are for Ravenclaw. I think that this question is about how do you look at different problems. Moon (I am thinking only about Earth's Moon)is for prefering one answer, one point of view, holding very tight to our beliefs. Moon is already discovered, safe and defined. Stars are for looking at many points of view, analyzing. There are millions of stars and there is only one Moon (yes, I know they are more, but as I said I speak only about Earth's).

And also stars are on the Ravenclaw's ceiling so it's 100% Ravenclaw :)

I wish that the stars were Ravenclaw - and I still think it's funny that this is a bad question because so many Ravenclaws do prefer the stars, and associate symbolism with them that is obviously not the symbolism that JKR or the Pottermore team used with them.

Some very close Sortings have been done that show stars does give points to Hufflepuff and Gryffindor instead of Ravenclaw. (As much as I would like to believe that stars is Ravenclaw for the quiz, it's not.) But, as I've pointed out a lot, 75% of Ravenclaws in my data have chosen stars over moon - that's more than the number of Gryffindors choosing stars! It becomes even more impressive when you realize that stars doesn't give any points to Ravenclaw, so 'Claws have to make it up by giving extra-Clawlike answers for the other questions to still get into Ravenclaw while answering stars. (In regards to the last post that I put up, the answer sets that match mine and land in Hufflepuff are generally the ones that include trusted/stars as a combination.)

I think there's a major disconnect between how most 'Claws think of the stars and how Pottermore sees the stars. (That, or most people in general could just like stars better, the same way that most people seem to prefer dusk - but still, I've spoken with more Ravenclaws who are strongly attached to the stars than Gryffindors or Hufflepuffs.) It isn't common on the quiz to have a House that doesn't get points from a question outnumbering a House that does. (Ravenclaw is basically the king of doing that, with the numbers it's putting up for trusted, probably liked, stars, and werewolves. But in other cases, you could make the argument that "imitated" or "goblins" are not the best of answers in comparison...while I personally really prefer the stars, I don't think it's the same situation as "imitated," where it's constantly landing at the very bottom of ranked Sortings, right next to "feared.")
