Akane’s primary female rivals for Ranma are Ukyo and Shampoo. Both Ukyo and Shampoo are known to be excellent cooks with Ukyo running her own Okonomiyaki stand and Shampoo working at the Cat Café. Meanwhile Akane is comedically inept at cooking, one of the many traditionally feminine skills or traits Akane has insecurities about living up to. Ranma tends to be rather insensitive about this due to being raised in a very toxic masculine worldview by Genma, similar to how Ranma reacts so negatively to turning into a girl despite being a girl providing relative social freedom to do certain things Ranma would feel too insecure to in boy form (such as eating the desert at that restraunt). Due to being raised in toxic masculinity being a poor cook is seen as an undesirable trait in a wife however unlike the good cooks, Ukyo and Shampoo, Akane sees Ranma as a person who’s individual thoughts and feelings should be considered and respected rather than a prize to be won at any cost. True love happiness and respect for Ranma lie outside what society conditions them to desire. The tomboyish girl who struggles with the skills assigned to her via gender role will ultimately be the romantic partner who will be better than the two who tick the boxes Ranma was raised to desire in a wife. Happiness for Ranma lies just beyond the conditioning society and Genma forced upon them….
