there's this PC98 Ranma game that has this CG but we never get to see the context for it lol

This game takes more notes from the manga and was being developed before Gosunkugi appeared in the anime but I always wondered if this came from a scrapped storyboard before they decided to scrap him(Ranma kinda has that season 1 look too?)

Okay Ranma meta time!!!

Akane’s primary female rivals for Ranma are Ukyo and Shampoo. Both Ukyo and Shampoo are known to be excellent cooks with Ukyo running her own Okonomiyaki stand and Shampoo working at the Cat Café. Meanwhile Akane is comedically inept at cooking, one of the many traditionally feminine skills or traits Akane has insecurities about living up to. Ranma tends to be rather insensitive about this due to being raised in a very toxic masculine worldview by Genma, similar to how Ranma reacts so negatively to turning into a girl despite being a girl providing relative social freedom to do certain things Ranma would feel too insecure to in boy form (such as eating the desert at that restraunt). Due to being raised in toxic masculinity being a poor cook is seen as an undesirable trait in a wife however unlike the good cooks, Ukyo and Shampoo, Akane sees Ranma as a person who’s individual thoughts and feelings should be considered and respected rather than a prize to be won at any cost. True love happiness and respect for Ranma lie outside what society conditions them to desire. The tomboyish girl who struggles with the skills assigned to her via gender role will ultimately be the romantic partner who will be better than the two who tick the boxes Ranma was raised to desire in a wife. Happiness for Ranma lies just beyond the conditioning society and Genma forced upon them….

Gosunkugi is so into the Evil Queen role omg

He literally forces the play to be what he originally imagined and puts himself in the villain's role that's how much he's into it

Everyone else has a reasonable nicknames but friday???

Love that Takahashi uses Gosunkugi as a segue to further the romance or experiment with plot points/gags that will later be expanded upon with more important characters.

Like in the world of Ranma 1/2 Gosunkugi either introduced or was the direct cause of:

Seriously is it me or Gosunkugi's crush on Akane in the remake seems more like idol worship than actual romantic attraction

So I was rewatching Season 1 of Ranma when...

Gosunkugi's in a crowd shot?? None of the other characters were drawn with those lower eyelids or that specific gaze and there is a theme dedicated to him on the season 1 album...

I like that they gave him marine-colored hair and centered bangs since it makes him look different from Akane but just similar enough that it wouldn't be unplausible for a delirious Ranma to mix him up with Akane if he's crossdressing.
