today is his day off. the only he reserved for himself for the whole week. it’s been a busy few days, he’s been swamped with clients and friends, going out night after night, making connections and bringing home big spenders. today, he relaxes. today, he has a nice glass of wine in a public place and he talks to someone new like a person might, without all the pretense of business, without the charismatic smile. he’s two glasses into the bottle of wine he’s bought, when he spots her across the bar, looking sort of lost and lonely. she reminds him of his mother. so, he crosses to her, takes a seat beside her, places the bottle of wine between them and gives a simple smile, no teeth, no performance. “i shouldn’t drink this whole thing by myself.”
