Has this been done yet
Ministry - Waiting
They took 8 months from us, schools closed, universities, workplaces. Millions of people haven't been able to work, kids not getting education, businesses have closed for good, families gone broke. We gotta respect the social distance, right?
Thousands of people that didn't get to say goodbye to their loved ones, who died alone because of either covid or preexisting conditions that couldn't get proper treatment due to, you guessed it, social distancing. Families couldn't hold wakes for their dead, no burials allowed, we gotta respect this social distancing.
But we understood, those were the rules, it was for the better good, we didn't want to risk the epidemic getting out of hand, didn't want to risk mass contagion. With broken hearts and biting our tongues, full of not so silent rage, but we understood. This social distance thing was for the best, right?
Now a footballer died and thousands upon thousands of people are filling the streets. Not quite shoulder to shoulder, they're all squished together, trying to push their way into our version of the white house, because our senseless government offered it to hold Maradona's wake. The government allowed and even encouraged this behavior, this accumulation of people that of course was gonna turn violent. There have been thefts, pickpocketing, assaults, arrests.. rubber bullets have been shot, tear gas, glass bottles thrown back at the police. Both police officers and mob members sustained major injuries. But people keep showing up to see the casket.
The wake intentionally held by the government to let millions of people mourn the footballer, IN PERSON, sorta backfired. Millions of people I'm telling you, all on top of each other, chanting and shit. You're lucky if you find one mask among every 30 heads.
And I'm here thinking: where's that social distance? The goddamn social fucking distance that caused us to not go to school, not go to the doctor and let illnesses take over, not go to work and go broke, closed small family businesses, not hold each other in the face of misery and pain, mourn via zoom meetings. Where's that fucking social distancing.
A football personality dies and a multitude of thousands and millions get to say goodbye and spit in the faces of the rest of the country, the ones who stayed home and didn't step foot on the street for over 8 months.
The hypocrisy.
I grabbed my phone like 5 hours ago to write something down on my calendar and have been sucked into a YouTube void of Timotheé Chalamet singing about statistics and several remixed variations of it Miss Lawton help
I'm gonna start a segment called: Today I woke up with THIS song stuck in my head
Or a catchier variation of that, you get the gist
