If there’s one thing Alex hasn’t gotten used to, it’s the return of normalcy after weeks of utter chaos.
Granted, things aren’t exactly normal even now. She’s director of the DEO—permanently, or at least more so than the last time she had the post—and Krypton is still around. Time travel is possible, at least by other means than a speedster, and she was part of an effort to change the course of history. An effort that succeeded.
It’s been a crazy few months.
Alex absently drums her fingers on her coffee cup, eyes glued to the door of the coffee shop. It’s been weeks since she’s seen Sam, and she misses her more than she probably should seeing as they don’t know each other all that well. She misses Ruby too, but it’s honestly nice not having to look after anyone for a while. Then again, having a responsibility like that helped her forget Maggie.
Alex’s jaw works slightly, and she takes a rather large gulp of hot coffee. The less time spent on that train of thought the better; she’s still got a headache from last night.
Some things, at least, haven’t changed.

Alura glanced away quickly, shame curling in her stomach, and murmured, ‘I... I’m sorry. That was... forgive me for saying that’.
Sam had enough problems of her own, enough burdens on her shoulders, without having to listen to hers. She learned long ago to keep her dark thoughts to herself, but with the ease of Sam’s company, she let herself slip.
‘You are right, of course’, she said, attempting a smile that felt too small and strained to be real, ‘as are our daughters’.

“I think-…I think I’m good on the first one but I’ll have to get back to you on the other two.” Sam made to exhale a breath of amusement, wincing from the stabbing pain in her chest as she did. Her hand came up to grasp her side where she landed on it when she fell.
“I probably just pulled a muscle, it’s nothing.” She hurried to wave it off. “Are you okay?” Sam asked after a moment’s pause. “You fought pretty hard back there. Thank you. I’m not sure what those guys would have done if you hadn’t stopped them.”
“I wouldn’t have let them hurt you or anyone else. They picked the wrong city to mess with today,” she joked, hoping to make light of the situation now that the threat had been dealt with. “And don’t worry, I’ll be good as new once I get under some yellow sun lamps.”
Using her xray vision, Kara gave Sam a quick once-over before she added, “You’re probably right about pulling a muscle, ‘cause your bones seem fine to me. But it’s still better to let Alex-- I mean, Agent Danvers have a look at it anyway.” Kara took a step closer towards the brunette, tilting her head slightly as she asked with a smile, “Would you like a ride to the DEO?”
A Pretty Great Team →
Staying to help tidy up once Lena was gone Kara made sure to be delicate when it came to setting the now empty wine bottle in the sink along with her glass. “You know...maybe it’s the wine talking but, we really did make a really great team and I gotta be cliche for a second and say...I’ve never really worked well with others before, always kinda been a lone wolf I guess the saying is...So I guess....I’m just tryin’ to say thanks for being so cool I guess, and being open to working with me crack this case...I know it was because we both care about Lena and obviously the kids but it was just...cool. And we really did make a great team.”
Mentally facepalming Kara turned to glance back towards the sink absently fidgeting with her fingers. “On that note though I’m saying we definitely shoulda ordered food with the wine, I mean come on that’s like a staple,”

“well...” alex starts, advancing carefully. “you begin by acknowledging that none of it was your choice. that you didn’t hurt any of those people.” knees bending, she lowers herself onto the couch next to the other woman, placing her glass on its designated coaster. “i know. i know it feels like you did. but sam, you’re not her. you never were and you never will be.” teeth briefly sinking into her bottom lip, alex shifts her hand to rest it atop of sam’s. “you’re good and kind. smart and... brave. just look at your daughter. look at ruby and the person she’s growing up to be. you did that. that is your legacy. not the terror and destruction caused by reign.”
“and you have to remember that you are not alone in this. that you have people who care about you. so if you wanna talk...” she trails off, acutely aware of the hypocrisy. alex rarely takes the high road on these sort of things, it’s easier to wash it all away with a bottle of whiskey then suppress what remains. but she wants it to be better for sam. for ruby. “i’m here, okay? you can tell me anything.” the words ring all too familiar and they wedge themselves right into the third intercostal space of her ribs, tugging sharply. but alex’s soft smile prevails. “anything you need. i’m here.”

Once again, her visit to her brother’s new company had taken longer than intended. Lena was a perfectionist, and not only when her reputation was at risk. Lex trusted her to keep this company afloat, Lena knew he expected more. Better. And she’d deliver. She would not only salvage what was left, but would make it profitable and better than it ever was.
She strolled through the office, noting only one light was on and remembering that same light being on the first time she’d been there. Samantha Arias. Junior VP. Lena had seen her working late and had asked who she was. Knew all about her by now, which could be interpreted as creepy but Lena saw as necessary for business. She needed people who were willing to give their all for LuthorCorp, people who would help Lena’s goals and vision. Samantha seemed perfect for the job.
Lena approached her.
“I thought I was the only one around,” she said with an amiable smile.

‘It’s an expression used commonly here, I believe. But you’re right. My misfortunes have little to do with others’.
Their people used to believe that everything was as Rao willed it to be. That Rao would watch over them, and take care of them. But their planet died, and Alura missed seeing her daughter grow up. If Rao truly was real, if he still lived, he was a cruel deity.
She shook herself slightly, looking up at Reign, taking in the mask covering her face, and it was so strange, to look at this woman who looked like Sam, and yet was nothing like her. ‘I suppose I wanted to meet you for myself’.
