As a rule, she doesn’t mean it.

She’s only following her nature; she can’t help the things she does. And if that weren’t enough, her name is a clue as to that nature—she was taught the wrong ways of loving by the people who raised her, who never knew how to love in a healthy fashion, and passed that ignorance on to their daughter before she was divine, when she was just a human girl desperate to be loved.

Ignorance is no excuse.

But her lovers tell themselves she doesn’t mean it; she just has a temper, she just doesn’t understand that words can hurt, that lies can be a poison that seeps into the skin and builds up in the bones, until it never leaves the body again. Until the choice is burn or die, and sometimes it isn’t a choice at all.

She doesn’t mean it. She doesn’t want to do it. She isn’t trying to hurt them; she loves them so much, she would never try to hurt them. Not on purpose. She just gets so mad sometimes, and she wouldn’t know what to do without them, wouldn’t know how to take care of herself, wouldn’t be able to keep her head above water. She needs them as much as they need her, and they forget that the word for a pretty poison that doesn’t quite kill you but won’t let you go is “drug” and the word for a relationship with that poison is “problem.”

She doesn’t mean it. Not a single bruise or cut, not a single blow or harsh word.

She doesn’t mean any of it.

She does it all the same.

Her faithful are too many, her forsworn too few, but when you see her reflection in your mirror…run. Run while you still can.

Because she doesn’t mean it. But she’ll put you in the ground.

Bingo! and lemme say, THEY........ THEY..!!!!

There's some sort of crack injected into this ship I stg. You know better than most how much I adore these two and in any iteration cus they've just got sooo much potential it makes me want to EXPLODE. The enemies to friends to lovers, their contrasting and complementary designs, the goldmine of fluff and ANGST (I still think about your palistrom wood theory btw). SO good.

This is one of those ships that stuck with me so strongly in spite of canon and it will continue as such until Dana herself barges into my house and confiscates my tablet

Once a year, he pulls the card of ‘my predecessor played a full 18 once a week, so I’m taking a long weekend’ and escapes with his wife up in Hyannis Port. Vanya has always cleared her schedule weeks in advance, and the second year of his presidency she’s already familiar with the way this is going to go and comes out on the porch when she sees them walking down the gravel path to the house. With the Secret Service lining the outside of his property and only Delores at his side, he reaches for her in broad sunlight and she wraps her arms haphazardly around his neck, drawing him down as he lifts her up, spinning dizzily in the warm, humid air. 

“Vanya,” Delores greets, knowing to give them a wide berth. “We’ll speak at dinner; I’ll head down to the beach, hm?” 

She’s gone in an instant, and Five resolves to buy her something heavy and gaudy in thanks when they get back to Washington. “Put on your swimsuit, sweetheart,” He encourages, pressing a familiar and light kiss to the corner of her pale, pink lips. “I’ll meet you at the pool in ten. Bring a book because I’m not letting you up for the rest of the afternoon” 

She nods, then narrows her eyes. “You’re leaving your phone in the office?” She asks, but it’s more of a gentle scolding. 

Five grins. “I have you to myself,” he says, “You think I’m going to plot how to oust Jim Inhofe from the Senate when your legs are on display for me for the next forty-eight hours?” 

“I’d help you,” Vanya murmurs, a glorious smirk quirking at the corner of her lips when he lets out a surprised bark of laughter. “Rat bastard.” She pulls away from him. “He reminds me of my ex.” 

Five’s smile falls, and he purses his lips, catching her wrist in the circle of his thumb and forefinger. “Careful,” he warns. There’s not much that they don’t speak of, but Vanya’s short, fame-drunk fling with an obsessed fan is one topic that is past the red line. That particular rat bastard is going to remain where Five buried him. 

After a long look, Vanya nods, pulling her wrist from his grip and ascending the stairs. Five leaves his bags in the entryway, stripping off his oxford and heading straight for the pool. The outdoor area is framed with perfumed honeysuckle and oleander, the white and pink blooms boxing them in their own little paradise.

4. What is/are your favorite trope(s)?

you know what i actually like all kinds of tropes, it just depends on the execution and the characters. in general i enjoy friends to lovers, especially childhood friends just bc i think being in love with someone who’s always been a part of your life and understands you is... a whole lot. it’s the INTIMACY for me. lately most of my favorite ships have been pseudo-incest that have this kinda vibe (but a lot more complicated - fiveya, jonsa, arvnora) 

i also love life-changing romance that ends in tragedy (his dark materials is a good example of this) also... loyalty? is that a trope? or more, i enjoy tropes that have a lot of loyalty imbedded in them, king and lionheart, captain and second-in-command, etc

11. What makes a great ship in your own opinion?

the on-screen chemistry and the potential. the ships that i tend to obsess over aren’t necessarily “canon” (and that’s never really mattered to me) will have a few electric moments in canon that opens up a world of possibilities. the more you can think about the potential of a ship, the more interesting it is. that’s why usually when something is super textbook canon i’m not AS interested bc the fun of the shipping is gone lol. not to say that i don’t enjoy on-screen canon romances, but a lot of the fun is in the subtlety and putting the pieces together for yourself. 

but maybe i only think that bc i’m an overthinker. and also it’s difficult for me to get behind most “canon” romance anyways bc the writing almost always misses the mark imo... hard for me to like canon stuff without heavy revision in my head but eh.

26. What are your favorite shipping scenes?

the ones that make me cry

no but really, i love shipping scenes (that don’t necessarily have to be romantic) that bring me emotional catharsis with the themes of the story. whether it’s tragic (five staring at vanya longingly as she patches him up) or a conclusion (martha and jonas at the end of the world) or even like... a reunion scene (jon and sansa meeting at castle black) any scene that is like heavy with emotional implications is going to make me scream. i know this is like... really vague.

but also, i love anything with... hands. you know?? HANDS.

Are you staying home from work/school? Yes, everyone at work is remote working now.

If you’re staying home, who is with you? Parents.

Are you a homebody? Yes, but I go stir crazy if I don’t have a variety of people to talk to, which is mainly why I miss going to work. Being stuck with the same two people all the time is grating on me.

An event you were looking forward to that got cancelled? A STEM workshop at this nice museum I haven’t been to since childhood. I was also going to have some relatives visit from abroad.

What movies have you watched recently? In order of watching: The Pink Panther: Shot in the Dark (classic). Jumanji: The Next Level (hilarious). Knives Out (excellent).

What shows are you watching? The Goes Wrong Show (I need more episodes). Brooklyn Nine Nine (no spoilers). Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (re-watching). Have I Got News For You (from tonight anyway).

What music are you listening to? A lot. Of all genres. If I got more specific this post would become longer than anyone would want.

What are you reading? I’ve nearly finished Chernobyl: History of Tragedy by Serhii Plokhy (a very long but fascinating book). Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie. Lots of Doctor Who fanfiction too. It’s currently my main fandom.

What are you doing for self-care? Does chocolate count?
