it's mostly coincidence imo... disney finishing a batch of those live action films at the same time (5?? i think?? that's a huge amount to release the same year), which happens to be the same time the cats and sonic movies are being talked about, and it's not really being counteracted by anything because there's only a tiny handful of animated films this year
i am entranced by the thought of all these studios nosing around each others business and trying to release The Iconic weird cgi animal movie of 2019

from a design and textural point the first is so much more convincingly a porcelain doll and it’s really weird that sherlock gnomes has that down better than pixar, but also like, more pressingly, HOW did she get the bonnet off…
I guess the bonnet broke, but it’s really weird that it broke without also breaking part of the back of her head.
The back of her head being missing would have actually been an interestingly visual update, it’s kinda weird that she’s been on her own for so many years and she has only broken her arm but hasnt gotten scratched elsewhere
