officially migrating to tumblr because of the rate limiting HELLO!!!
SHOP: gettothecorner.com
Twitter now has a rate limit...
of how many Tweets you can READ per day, not even Tweet, read, like, why? What is the point?
Elon: people are reading too many tweets per day! I'm going to limit how many Tweets they can read!
Twitter users/IT: sir this is the Reading Tweets website, that's literally what it's designed for
Can you imagine if the idiot was dumb enough to take that sub ride, instead of the 19 year old? That’d have been wild.
What the fuck is rate limit?
He really is trying his hardest to tank his own app, and we thought Tumblr owners were bad 😬
all jokes aside the twt thing is actually rlly awful bc love it or hate it twt is the best social media site to get real time news updates from. the president uses twt to update the nation. world leaders utilize twitter. twitter is the way most people will find out about things like weather advisories or mass shootings or earthquakes or whatever.
this could have actual real world effects on ppl who use it for real time updates on current events, globally
it does feel a little criminal. information should be free.
Yeah I think this is the thing that kills it.
First: Twitter is officially a dead zone for any artists. If you're following a bunch of art pages, you're gonna hit that limit in probably under a half hour. Not to mention the artists' perspective: why utilize a platform that will actively bar your audience from seeing your art just because they saw someone else's first.
Second: Twitter just fucking obliterated its ad revenue. Say I'm an advertiser, why the hell would I pay for ad space on a website that is likely not going to be seen by most users because they hit their limit. It's like paying for a billboard on a highway that's shut down. While obviously a move to push people to pay for the subscription I can't imagine that would be worth losing out on that much ad revenue.
Third: While this has already been declining since Musks' takeover, Twitter has now become possibly the worst outlet for PR and News outlets. One of the bigger draws for Twitter was it was a big platform where celebrities, media outlets, etc would post announcements, breaking news, etc. During major events Twitter was the place to be since you could see journalists posting updates on developing situations in real time, often even with pictures and videos from the scene (the US Capitol Riots in 2021 are one of the best examples of this). With a limit on views, Twitter is now the worst place to follow these scenarios as you'll likely be locked out of any updates within minutes, and the clowns who paid for premium will probably be locked out in an hour in these kinds of scenarios. The only real winner in this case is likely news outlets as the most convenient place to follow breaking and developing stories will be on their own website.
I genuinely can't think of any end user who benefits from this change.
