"Black Mart Thefts On Increase," Vancouver Sun. October 5, 1943. Page 13. --- Black market thieves were active again in Vancouver last month, stealing more gasoline ration books, food ration books, auto tires, tea and coffee than in August.
During the month 193 gasoline ration books were stolen compared with 162 for the previous month.
The increase is largely ac counted for by the fact that ration books for 23 trucks were taken by thieves who entered the King Motor Cartage Com pany, 112 Carrall Street, on September 7.
Siphoning of gasoline from the tanks of parked autos showed a decrease from 169 gallons in August to 72 gallons in September.
Last month 107 food ration books were lost or stolen, compared with 74 for the previous month.
Auto tire thefts increased from 16 in August to 52 last month.
Forty-seven pounds of tea were stolen last month. During the previous month only reported theft was 100 tea bags totalling about one pound.
Coffee thefts increased from 7 in August to 54 in September.
Only 10 pounds of sugar were stolen last month, compared to 360 pounds in August.
