A Rant on Adoption Fees

Hello all! :D I have decided to make brief rant-type posts on rats, rat adoption and my experiences while running my small rattery! I do not want these rants to come off as aggressive or towards anyone in specific, they are just thoughts on my mind that I would like to express.

This rant is on adoption fees.

The first point in my rant is: ALL RATTIES HAVE ADOPTION FEES. Humane society rats have adoption fees, pet store rats have adoption fees, ratteries have adoption fees, and usually if you are adopting rats from an owner they will also charge a fee for their rats.

Please do not come to me wanting pet rats and then complaining that true rat lovers would not charge adoption fees or that my adoption fees are too high! The fees are there for many reasons. The first reason behind them is SAFETY. My rats are for pet homes only, thus why the “cheapest” (and I dislike that word in this context) rats in my rattery are $15. This is to ensure that they will 100% be going to pet homes, to put it bluntly no one pays $15 for snake food.

Please do not tell me that you cannot afford the adoption fee of the rat you are looking for and then expect me to lower it for you! If you cannot afford to put $15 towards your rattie friend this leads me to believe that you do not have adequate funds to care for them in the future. If you are going out to adopt a rat please be prepared to spend at least $100 on them at any time as circumstances require.

Rats are interactive, free thinking beautiful pets who will accompany and love you for their entire lives as you do the same. Rats are not goldfish (no offense to goldfish<3) and you cannot adopt nor care for them at the same price as a goldfish. Prepare for the money aspect and then message me accordingly.
