Okay listen to me Guys.. I finished Prince's Gambit yesterday (again) and now..one thing is very clear to me...
Damen is actually a real Mastermind in case of strategy.
While Laurent is stubborn as hell when he got provoked.
But of which scene are you talking right now? The scene where Laurent received the message from the Regent with Nicaise's head. Laurent got highly emotional over that and was head over heels ready to ride off for charcy, while Damen on the other hand sensed, that this isn't a good idea at all.
So they talked about that (or more like - Laurent provoked Damen, shit-talked about his father and then got punched in the jaw with a good, strong akielon fist)
After this, Laurent calmed down and let Damen spin out strategy for Charcy and here is it - At the first read nearly everyone thought 'Damen why r u so dumb and send Laurent to death!?' but...Laurent wanted to ride by himself to Charcy, to face his Uncle, he wanted it! Also Damen needed to be left in Ravenel because of Nikandros arriving some hours later.
I sat there in front of the book like 👁️👄👁️ Damn, that was clever (until the part where we all know, that the whole thing was a Trap, designed by the asshole-regent himself.)

Portrait du capitaine de vaisseau Louis-Gaud de Ravenel (1747-1824)/ Portrait of Captain Louis-Gaud de Ravenel (1747-1824) by François-Louis Brossard de Beaulieu 1785
It is known that he was born on 16 September 1747 in Granville and died on 5 January 1824 in Flacq (Mauritius). 1782-1783 he participated as General Major in India under Admiral Comte Pierre André de Suffren de Saint Tropez, Bailli de Suffren in the battles to defend the Dutch colonies and was wounded at Gandelour on the flagship Le Héros. Enthusiastically mentioned by Suffren, he was then ennobled by Louis XVI and spent three years in Versailles where he supervised the finances of the Indian installations. Thereupon he was promoted to captain (capitaine de vaisseau) and went as harbour captain to Port-Louis (Île de France, now Mauritius). There he received the command first over the frigate La Preneuse, then over La Forte, where he had to carry out a mutiny in order to provide again for right and order. After the capitulation of France to the English in 1810, Gaud Louis de Ravenel remained on Mauritius as a carnation and nutmeg farmer. Married 1818 in Flacq (Mauritius) for the second time and died at the age of 76 years in 1824.

Ravenel squealed with delight the moment she was discovered, much to the amusement to the surrounding workers. Belly was relatively undisturbed, accustomed to his master’s antics by this point, and was content to stay where he was while the princess ran to give Astrid.
“Hi! You came!” she chirped, bouncing up and down. Rav had clearly been having fun with the festivities, the stains of juice from nearby stalls coating her lips, and several small prizes bulging from her pockets. But all this was forgotten in favor of the older woman. “Are you gonna see my mom too? She’s really big now!”
