Family

"It's pretty nice watching the kids, I have to admit that.", he chuckles. "They're cute, despite their age."

"True.", she leans on his shoulder. "They really are adorable."

"I can say the same to you.", he pats her head with his human arm.

She giggles "Thank you."

"You know... I admire how good you are to them, even though you're not blood-related.", he combs her hair.

"We're a family, of course I should be.", she smiles. "A family is not necessarily related by blood, when all of the members care for each other like they have the same blood flowing i their veins, that's when they are a family."

"You're right, I definitely learned that from being with all of you.", he smiles.

"That's great.", she laughs. "I love you."

"I love you too.", he laughs with her. "May I... kiss you?"

"Of course.", she nod her head.

They kiss happily, then pull away and smile lovingly.

"Happy New Year."

A Walk

"Hey Nova.", she greets. "What are you doing?"

"Hm... Thinking about what I should do?", he sighs. "Honestly, I don't really know what to do. Especially now, in New Years Day."

"Then... would you like to go for a walk?, she smiles.

"Alright, it's not like I have anything to do.", he stands up.

They walk together outside, looking at the kids playing and enjoying the scenery.

"It's beautiful, don't you think?", she turns to him.

"Yeah, it sure is.", he looks around. "It... really has been a while since I last get to do this, it feels nostalgic."

"I'm glad you like it.", she giggles. "I love you."

"Me too.", he leans down and kisses her.

"Happy New Year."

Relax

"You should relax.", he grabs her shoulder. "It's New Years Day, let the kids play."

"I don't know.", she sighs. "I'm just- afraid that they might- You know, hurt themselves?"

"I know you're concerned.", he sits down with her. "However, I believe they know it too. Don't worry about it too much, they can take care of themselves."

"I suppose so, I guess... I'm overreacting.", she leans back on the couch.

"It's okay, I know how you feel.", he gives her a cup of hot chocolate. "Drink this, they say it helps you settle down."

"Thank you.", she takes a sip and smiles. "It really does help."

"A smile from you is... pretty rare.", he smiles. "I like it, although it doesn't appear often."

She chuckles "Really? Thank you. Your smile as well, isn't it the same?"

"Perhaps so.", he lets out a low chuckle. "I love you."

"Me too.", she kisses him.

As they part, both of their lips curl up into a smile.

"Happy New Year."

"That was a bad plan."

“Yet you’re still here.”

And the fact is, it’s really not a bad plan. Eunji still isn’t quite sure why she asked Xerena to join her for this - it’s common fact that the two of them don’t get along - but she has and now she’s going to bear the consequences, it seems, of a doubtful accomplice.

It’s not quite what she had in mind.

Still, they’re both here now and it is Eunji’s fault that they’re here, so she’ll have to stick to it anyway - make the best of a bad decision and all. She sighs.

“Alright, wand out then.”

Amélie was not a bad student, at least not in terms of her grades. Instead, she was negligent, believing that if her time could be spent doing something more useful, why should she bother with studying? So when Xerena had requested her presence in the library for a ‘study date’, Amélie grudgingly went along and found herself trapped in a state of boredom that she simply had to escape.

Amélie was slumped over her side of the desk. She breathed deeply in through her nose, the dry air smelling of dust and old parchment. Spluttering, her fist came over her mouth to quieten the coughing while her eyes sneakily glanced at the girl seated opposite her. Amélie’s index then fiddled with a small ball of paper, pushing it harder into the wood as she cleared her throat, eyes returning to her companion. Not one to back down from a challenge (or be ignored for some assignment), Amélie pushed her platinum locks over her shoulder and lined up the shot, flicking the ball right across the desk and hitting its target-- the centre of Xerena’s forehead.

     “Oopsies.”
