azzy and kris has helped asgore watch over the flowers since they were little.

they would watch with big wide eyes as asgore waters the seven flowers and explains to them how they should watch over them with attentive love and care. once they grew old enough that they wouldn't spill the watering can, asriel and kris takes turn on watering the flowers.

at one point kris almost plucked one of them out because they wanted to eat one (most likely flowery lol). they got an earful from asgore for that as asriel and toriel nearly laughed their asses off.

asgore also taught the kids that flowers also get nourishment from positive attention like telling them stories and complimenting them for staying beautiful. so asriel and kris started doing the same during their watering duties. suffice to say that flowers appreciated them <3

the kids also taught the same to dess and noelle, so the sisters would make sure to tell them how jolly they look, looking rock n' rolling fellas, whenever they visit

when the parents started fighting over the incident, asgore has somewhat neglected the flowers, so it's the children who mostly take over. they would still sprinkle in some compliments here and there, which eventually evolves to them venting about their crumbling family life. the flowers have watched them cry their hearts out as tears drop down on their petals. eventually when asgore moved out, kris was also crying for the flowers to come back.

the flowers loved asgore's family too. but the reason they want asgore away from them was not only because of pure naiveness, that their concept of eternal happiness is escapism, a world away from all the tears, but also because kris started acting differently. they didn't act like the same child that flowery have received care from, the same child whom he watched grow up, the same child who'd still, after the divorce, drop by flower kingdom to look at the flowers, smile at them and say they look pretty today. and it took a long while for flowery to realize that he had to trust kris again.

before sealing the fountain, kris walks up to flowery. without the soul knowing, kris told with a small smile to flowery, this time in his human form, "you look great as ever, flowery."

flowery nearly crumpled on that moment, but he held it together with a wobbling smile as he ruffled kris's head. flowery was finally able to respond back after all the years he couldn't speak back, "thanks, kid. you're not so half-bad yourself either. tell that to azzy too."

the child pretended they missed the way flowery's eyes watered.

very ooc but what if asgore was in a better headspace and didn't brush flowery off as Just Another Darkner and actually acknowledged flowery's whole deal?

one day during camp in the war era, a sickly rhys pukes out that night's dinner, aka oscar's cooking.

oscar was the nearest at that time so he rushes to rhy's side and frantically offers some support by rubbing the medic's back, checking his temperature, then bringing him to the nearest medical tent. rhys nearly passes out and clings onto oscar, muttering repeated apologies for ruining his cooking, tears falling down his eyes.

this isn't the first time rhys had to puke out oscar's cooking, but he truly truly felt like he offended the knight for wasting the food that he worked hard to cook for the camp. if they weren't stressed out by the war, rhys wouldn't have spiraled down like this. he had never hated his own illness more than anything.

luckily oscar is far too understanding when he shushes rhys's mumbling, that it was alright, it wasn't his fault, he should it take it easy and rest for now. oscar didn't resent rhys one bit for what happened.

rhys almost wishes that oscar wasn't kind, then maybe he could control his stomach more and waste less of oscar's hard work. nonetheless, he's ever so grateful for his companion's unyielding compassion which he needed more than ever during a time when anyone can die anytime soon.

three of ike's core memories of boyd is him asking ike, "what are you looking at?"

the first time was when the brothers first arrived at the fort, all dirtied and confused yet grateful of greil bringing them in. a 13 yr old ike was staring at a 14 yr old boyd, who flinched, nervous and cautious, and hissed, "what are you looking at?" (ike just blinks and stretches his hand out "hullo. i'm ike." neither are unaware of the strong friendship that's about to bloom between the boys)

the second time was when ike first saw boyd in action as a mercenary, blood of the bad guys splattered accross his arms, chest, and face. to somewhat show off, boyd asked ike with a smug grin, "what are you looking at?" (ike doesn't realize that he was staring, maybe mesmerized at how unfazed boyd is of all the horrors that's happening around them. he should learn a thing or two from him.)

the third time was when ike gave boyd the axe that greil used, urvan. titania refused the offer, so he entrusted his father's axe to his best friend. boyd cried and babbled about how this axe was the reason greil found the brothers, when he rescued them from danger and offered them a place to call 'home' and change their lives forever. boyd chuckled awkwardly, suddenly looking as small as when they first met, and sniffled, "what are you looking at?" (ike doesn't realize he was staring again. but he doesn't look away.)

during the first war, i'm pretty sure tormod and sothe got into a fight even once they became close friends.

sothe might have made an offhanded racist comment against laguzes (like maybe how ugly and stinky they were), which infuriated tormod so much that he yelled at sothe for being so insensitive, that this was why he hated beorcs so much (despite being one himself), and stormed off.

at this point of their friendship and how deadlier the war was becoming, sothe was humbled enough to become a bit scared shitless for losing the first friendship he made since micaiah. he wanted to make it up for it, but wasn't sure how. he didn't know how to say sorry without sounding ingenuine since he used to be (and can still be sometimes) unapologetic like how thieves are usually perceived as. he didn't know how to seek advice for this sort of thing either until calil saw sothe mumbling under a tree with a troubled look and asked the kid what was wrong.

sothe recognized calil as tormod's mentor, so he almost tearfully asked her for help. being the traveler that calil is who has seen the cultures of almost all of tellius, she smiled and sat by sothe's side and told him of stories of laguzes, of the prejudices they face, and why tormod became upset. this opened sothe's eyes and wished he never grew up with such a backward mindset. he finally understood the why micaiah would frown at him whenever he used to sneer at the laguzes they come across on the outskirts of daein.

it wasn't easy approaching tormod, who narrowed his eyes at sothe and looked like he was about to hiss and snarl (and maybe he did the former). he was far scarier like this than when he unleashes a fire tornado on the battlefield with a somewhat manic smile. sothe hesitated but once he finally ripped the bandage off by stuttering a quiet yet genuine sorry, how insensitive he really was of what he'd said about laguzes, and that he wanted to change and he'll never speak of them lowly again, tormod blinked back at sothe with owlish eyes and grins wide as if they never even fought, much to sothe's huge relief.

not long after, tormod was waving his arms around again and rambled to sothe about how amazing his tribe was, about maurim and his family, and this time sothe sat quietly by his friend's side and listened intently with a newer and more respectable perspective of the laguzes.
