what if the royal army are regular grizzco eployees?
i can totally see kieran the typa worker who charges into the danger zone and by danger zone i mean the fucking shore 💀💀💀 everytime everyone marvels at the fact that kieran almost always comes back alive. because of this he collects and relays the eggs to others more than store them himself.
marcia also takes risks, but not as much as kieran would. she's the fastest in gliding through the ink and can best evade the salmon's attacks, hence her recklessness. she prefers to stay on higher surface, so she thrives on knocking down fishsticks and lids as well as catching snatchers right by the basket.
makalov the typa worker who either camps by the basket or suicides runs aways and hides in the ink on the walls as soon as things starts to get grim. sometimes you'll see him in places where it's neither the safest nor the most dangerous once the basket gets crowded. him getting lost can also come in handy if kieran or marcia gets splatted in a danger zone so mak can rescue them, the only gamble he's willing to make. he stores the most eggs.
astrid plays the safest. she has the hardest time to adjust on each weapon switch, but because she stays at all the safe spots, it doesnt make her a burden since there will be times when she has to rescue all three splatted coworkers, which she can actually pull off as long as they arent all by the far separate areas of the shore. she survives the longest.
oscar balances between going to unsafe spots to gather more eggs (and to keep kieran in check) and staying in a considerable distance from the basket where he can easily store eggs and rescue others. he's the fastest to adjust between weapons.
geoffrey is the same as oscar's but doesnt go too far to keep everyone within his vicinity. he's the best at hitting the sweet spots on every salmonid bosses, yes even the fucking flyfishes. so he earns the most KOs out of everyone. unfortunately he gets more splatted than he'd like to because of his slight recklessness to aim at the bosses everytime he encounters one.
lucia always prioritises on wiping out the lesser salmonids to make way for the others, mostly to save geoffrey's ass who tends to forget to shoot them. she also does best with damaging controls for approaching bosses (like the fishsticks). she refills her inks the fastest.
i gotta be honest here: as capable as elincia is of being a worker, i dont think she would work for grizzco due to the unethical practice of collecting eggs from salmons who are just minding their own business 😭 but she can't stop her friends from working since it's a living that earns them a handsome amount of money. as the daughter of someone with enough power to make changes in the laws (idk sploon government rip), she's actively finding better alternatives to harvest electricity so her friends won't have to risk themselves anymore

during the first war, i'm pretty sure tormod and sothe got into a fight even once they became close friends.
sothe might have made an offhanded racist comment against laguzes (like maybe how ugly and stinky they were), which infuriated tormod so much that he yelled at sothe for being so insensitive, that this was why he hated beorcs so much (despite being one himself), and stormed off.
at this point of their friendship and how deadlier the war was becoming, sothe was humbled enough to become a bit scared shitless for losing the first friendship he made since micaiah. he wanted to make it up for it, but wasn't sure how. he didn't know how to say sorry without sounding ingenuine since he used to be (and can still be sometimes) unapologetic like how thieves are usually perceived as. he didn't know how to seek advice for this sort of thing either until calil saw sothe mumbling under a tree with a troubled look and asked the kid what was wrong.
sothe recognized calil as tormod's mentor, so he almost tearfully asked her for help. being the traveler that calil is who has seen the cultures of almost all of tellius, she smiled and sat by sothe's side and told him of stories of laguzes, of the prejudices they face, and why tormod became upset. this opened sothe's eyes and wished he never grew up with such a backward mindset. he finally understood the why micaiah would frown at him whenever he used to sneer at the laguzes they come across on the outskirts of daein.
it wasn't easy approaching tormod, who narrowed his eyes at sothe and looked like he was about to hiss and snarl (and maybe he did the former). he was far scarier like this than when he unleashes a fire tornado on the battlefield with a somewhat manic smile. sothe hesitated but once he finally ripped the bandage off by stuttering a quiet yet genuine sorry, how insensitive he really was of what he'd said about laguzes, and that he wanted to change and he'll never speak of them lowly again, tormod blinked back at sothe with owlish eyes and grins wide as if they never even fought, much to sothe's huge relief.
not long after, tormod was waving his arms around again and rambled to sothe about how amazing his tribe was, about maurim and his family, and this time sothe sat quietly by his friend's side and listened intently with a newer and more respectable perspective of the laguzes.
the yandere potential of the oscar x kieran ship, from both sides, is actually... pretty insane

one day during camp in the war era, a sickly rhys pukes out that night's dinner, aka oscar's cooking.
oscar was the nearest at that time so he rushes to rhy's side and frantically offers some support by rubbing the medic's back, checking his temperature, then bringing him to the nearest medical tent. rhys nearly passes out and clings onto oscar, muttering repeated apologies for ruining his cooking, tears falling down his eyes.
this isn't the first time rhys had to puke out oscar's cooking, but he truly truly felt like he offended the knight for wasting the food that he worked hard to cook for the camp. if they weren't stressed out by the war, rhys wouldn't have spiraled down like this. he had never hated his own illness more than anything.
luckily oscar is far too understanding when he shushes rhys's mumbling, that it was alright, it wasn't his fault, he should it take it easy and rest for now. oscar didn't resent rhys one bit for what happened.
rhys almost wishes that oscar wasn't kind, then maybe he could control his stomach more and waste less of oscar's hard work. nonetheless, he's ever so grateful for his companion's unyielding compassion which he needed more than ever during a time when anyone can die anytime soon.
