This is about three months late but I wanted to go ahead and post about it anyway.
I got an email from RAW Artists here in Austin when I was home for this past Christmas. I was asked to submit my work for an upcoming showcase they were going to be having. I submitted as a late entry because I was given such short notice, and in March I got a phone call asking me to be apart of their show "Marvel".
Just to give a brief overview of me as an artist-- I don't know what I like to do best. I went to school for Graphic Design, and I love typography and web design but I am also going to school for Cosmetology and I thoroughly enjoy makeup and hair. When I submitted my portfolio to RAW, I submitted all kinds of work. I sent drawings, photos, advertisements I had created and actually, they were the ones who asked me to showcase my artwork at Marvel-- I had no idea what I was going to choose.
I was so excited, I had never been asked to do anything like this before. I have participated in school-facilitated art shows and things like that, but never one of this magnitude. I went to a couple of production meetings to see the space at the Belmont here in Austin, and I was just amazed. It was such a neat venue and I couldn't wait.
The day of the show, my mom, stepdad, grandpa, grandma, sister and boyfriend helped me get ready and get setup. I was at the venue at 2PM setting up to get started applying makeup. I had eight amazing models come out and one of them was my sister which made the whole thing really fun. The show started at 8PM and people began pouring in. The weather was amazing and couldn't have been any better for an outside venue like we had! My personal booth was located upstairs on the outside deck and my models also walked the runway at 11PM.
Thank you so much to RAW, who gave me the amazing opportunity to further myself and my career in makeup. The event as a whole was such a rush, and I will never forget it. I am looking into doing another showcase when I move to Dallas in the middle of this coming November, so you may be seeing me again pretty soon!
