Dark Fantasy. Dragons. Intrigue. Romance. More than anything, I crave adventure. But in the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the well-established rings of our kingdom. At the very heart reigns our vicious king and Lord Irrik, an invincible dragon shifter, at his side. Their power poisons the land and the people, leading to a steadily mounting number of enemies. But change is coming. When the rebellion surges, the king strikes back. Captured by Lord Irrik, I'm suddenly embroiled in a deadly game. One where I'm desperate to understand the rules. Because I'm not only fighting for my life... but also a love that could be the very key to my freedom.
Goodreads
Dragons! I am getting more and more into dragons. They are wonderful supernaturals and I haven't come across to many dragon shifters in ya. I need more books about dragon shifters because Blood Oath was amazing! However my bank account is totally screaming at me saying no more books, like that's gonna happen.
I am a shifter snob, I hate to admit it but when it comes to stories that have shifters in them I have certain ones I just can't handle. An example of this is bear shifters, polar bear shifters, fox shifters (although I do have my eye on one book but its a rh) and a few others. For some reason I just can't deal with that storyline but I am trying, slowly. However I do love werewolf shifters and I got into a series about dragon shifters as well and loved it so I knew I wanted another dragon story.
Fantasy books are my thing and high fantasy in the ya/na realm I just can't get enough of them and Blood Oath is one such book. Raye Wagner has created a wonderful high fantasy that is compelling and has all the elements I want in a high fantasy. A castle with an evil king check, supernatural creatures check, a rebellion check, complicated relationships check, fighting, suffering, and a fierce female lead, check.
The world that was created was interesting and not to complicated, there was even a book map but unfortunately I couldn't really read it that well due to the print was to dark but still possibilities for later printing. Details was slowly released to help the reader get use to the world.
Ryn was a character that I grew to like. She seemed like your average girl and was generally okay but there was nothing that bonded me to her at first. However after all the things she went through I eventually liked her. Ryn became stronger and was more willing to fight back towards the end. She did have her flaws and wasn't very smart like other lead characters in ya novels but Ryn was loyal and that is an admiring quality to have.
As for the other characters, some I hated, some I really like, some grew on my while others shocked the hell out of me. A good array of characters (personality wise) was represented and I loved how things turned out because of them. I mean there were so many lies, betrayals and plot twists, I just didn't know what to do with myself. The story did have some slow parts but I was high captivated through the whole book wondering if my theories were correct. I was right about something and shocked by others, now I have so many questions that didn't get answered. I have to know what happens next so I will be picking up the next book in the series.
Blood Oath was a fantastic ya fantasy that while held all the ideas of a fantasy did have some uniqueness that I loved. It was full of heartbreak, intrigue, violence, love and so much more. I can't wait to see if some of my other theories are correct and if they are, I am so ready for it. If you are looking for a good ya fantasy read then I suggest you give dragons a try, I know I am glad I did.
