So, my friend @dmplz has a character that is from out homebrew system built to play with WOTC Magic the Gathering story and cards. In addition to the planes that wizards themselves have officially introduced to the multiverse, we introduce many of our own planes and races as we go. It allows us to take the story with this character into any setting we wish, and so far has been a lot of fun.
I thought you guys might enjoy getting a look at some of these planes that have been created! So, in this post I will describe the most recent plane I have created - Rayis!
(This is quite a long post, and has lots of pictures - just a warning)
Rayis is a plane of adventure and exploration. It is a rather large island that sits in the middle of a seamingly endless ocean (if there is an end to it, no one has found it yet). Very little of the plane faces cold climate, and instead the whole plane seems to be a temperate biome of forests, swamps, rocky mountain ranges and rolling, hilly grasslands.
The Geography
Rayis is a large, self sufficient Island. A long range of stony mountains cuts along the west to north coast. The bottom halves of the mountains have rich, loose soil that allows for very thin trees and light brush to grow without much problem. Higher in the mountains you can find the entrances to a few volcanoes (most of which are dormant) where dragons roam and fight one another. Caves dot the mountain sides at varying levels, many of which house the various denizens of the plane.

The swamps are treacherous and flooded, proving hazardous to navigate by foot. Many use rafts and boats in order to avoid confrontation with alligators, flesh eating fish and mind devouring bacteria. This of course does not protect them from the dangers that move through the canopy overhead.

The desnse, temperate forests hold all sorts of creatures ready to pounce upon the unprepared. Rivers twist and cut through the land among the trees and stones with little predictability.Many have learned to control the land, however. From building among the branches and canopy of the trees, to building into the ground itself.

The coasts that are not dominated by mountains are home to beautiful, sandy beaches. Crystal waters hold worlds of teeming fish, colorful coral reefs, families of merfolk and other unknown and fantastical beings.

Volcanic islands dot the coast lines (never too far from the mainland). Very little lives there, but untold riches and extraordinary creatures and magical energies reonate there.

Denizens of Rayis
The Gedis are an amphibious race of salamander people. They are cold-blooded, and as such have made the most advances in temperature adjusting clothing. They are flexible and fast, while still being able to build a decent amount of strength for day to day activities and travel.

Aven are fast and intelligent bird people, who manuever the skies with unmatched skill. While capable of doing anything, they excel as cartographers and wizards.

The Elves on this world are a subterranian. Their skin is bone white, their hair platinum blonde. Smooth skin covers their face where their eyes would normally be, and their ears are slightly wider to help them hear their surroundings. They are ideally suited to night work and working environments with little to no light access.

Merfolk on this plane have slender, athletic bodies that maintain muscle very well. They are suited to survive on land just as easily as water. They have small holes that line their ribs, neck and other key places to help them absorb oxygen from air or water into their bloodstream. They have learned to adapt easily to their environment, and while they prefer the sea they are well suited to traveling long distances with little water.

The Dwarves are hearty beings who live in nomadic communities among the forested mountainsides. They heard large goat like creatures providing a much needed service to the community as they are one of the few races with the constitution to follow the animals long distances, sustain themselves in the cold, and bring down an angry predator hunting their herds. They are tanned with coarse hair, and clothe themselves in furs and printed cloths to represent their tribes.

Life on Rayis
The rather large island of Rayis is landlocked, and no ships have dared venture out far enough to see if anything else exists in the world. You would think that would make Rayis a well mapped and documented land, but that could not be further from the truth! Rayis is so densely overgrown and prone to so many acts of nature that reshape it that there are still numerous things yet to be discovered.
Life on Rayis is a life of constant discovery. It is not uncommon for people to pursue the call of adventure, to travel the land and find hidden treasures, discover new landmarks, or just experience the thrill of it all.

It’s also a life of survival. Just as the land is wild and untamed, so are the plants and animals that live within it. Be it dinosaurs, giant birds, carnivorous plants or subterranean insects, the people of Rayis adapt to fight back against the inhospitable land, and to survive among the land rather than attempting to reshape it or overcome it. It is a life that provokes inspiration and adaptation.

Towns settle among treetops and within natural caverns, defenses fashioned from what is available to get the job done. Clothing is designed to be light and cool while also durable and protective. Gear is designed to traverse long distances with speed and ease, and to adjust to surroundings on the fly.

In summary - Rayis is a land of high adventure and discovery. Everyday the varied people push themselves and test their boundaries. Survival is something earned through exhilarating creativity and endless perseverance. The landscape is a sight of untamed beauty hiding untold secrets, where all manners of life flourish and battle for superiority.
