OK, so you know all those princesses from Rayman Legends, including Barbara? Here's my headcanons.

Barbara and Elysia were twins and lived together with their parents for the first two years of their lives. They got separated because their father couldn't stop being a cheap-ass colonial bastard who liked making shit worse for the serfs and servants. Barbara and Elysia's mother (who was more progressive and only married their father as per an arranged marriage) was forced to only take one toddler and raised her to be a rebel fighter until her death. Barbara never knew Elysia was her sister until they met up as young adults in battle.

Aurora and Twila are three years apart and hail from a kingdom populated by bean plants. They constantly quarrel over what way is the best way to rule their kingdom, which only serves to piss off their loyal subjects. When a toad army invades their kingdom, they fight with each other over how to get rid of them. Aurora simply wants to intimidate them into leaving, while Twila wants to use fire against them. (She's a pyromaniac, OK?)

Estelia and Selena are princesses who are in charge of taking care of the souls of the dead. Estelia manages the innocent souls, while Selena takes care of the evil ones. Selena feels jealous of her twin since she is depressed from seeing so much evil in the world and eventually...disappears. Estelia was under the impression of Selena being chill with her line of work until learning about her sister running away. She constantly sends out guardians to find Selena but hasn't had any luck so far. Meanwhile, Selena unfortunately falls under the influence of Mr Dark...

Ursula and Emma are a couple of tech-savvy princesses who have to deal with an army of underwater toads that are trying to kill them. Both sisters seek a device that creates portals to different worlds, and they want to throw the toads through such a portal. (But they haven't considered the possibility of the toads becoming a danger to other people, lol) Anyways, Emma gets separated from Ursula on a mission through a labyrinth, leading to her older sister to think she died. She is working hard on defeating the toads and avenging her (not so) dead sister.

Olympia and Sibylla are two princesses who are descended from Athena, goddess of wisdom. The two of them defend Olympus from attacks by demons and still stick by each other no matter what. Sibylla is too curious for her own good and often goes monster hunting (namely the Minotaur), leading to Olympia to go out and drag her arse home before she gets killed.

So yeah, here's the backstories I made up for the main line of princesses from Rayman Legends. I know that there are MORE, but I can't be arsed to go through them. Also, in my headcanon, each set of sisters isn't related, i.e., Barbara and Elysia aren't related to A+T, E+S, etc. Asafjdhvzd

✨Rayman Princess Designs✨

So these are early concepts or redesigns I have for the princesses because I feel like they all look too similar to Barbara. I was kind of a challenge but I kind of worked through the color palette of each of them as well as the location they are from. 

I’ll put the descriptions here: 

Barbara and Elysia

I didn't really change much for Barbara but I definitely did for Elysia. I go with the colors of each of the princesses. So this one is a strange but cute idea, but I like to think that Barbara’s and Elyisa’s parents were a Viking that fell in love with an orc queen. Both having similar interests with adventure and brute force. Hence why I gave Elysia more orc-like features here. She is a little bit more timid younger sister of Barbara who is more confident. But both sisters have a big heart of gold. They actually have the healthiest sisterly bond out of all the princesses I have here. I kinda gave Barbara orc-like teeth too, they're just not as visible as her sister’s.

Aurora and Twila

These two were actually tricky since they supposedly are based around fighting the toads in a bog-like area, with beanstalks and have appearances of Scottish warriors. So this took a little more thought, but I think it would be interesting if it were based around the fable ‘The Scorpion and the Frog’, making Aurora more frog-like since she lives in a swamp kingdom in which was invaded by toad creatures. For Twila I originally wanted her to be similar to a poison dart frog, but I wasn't sure if it would look good since she has the weirdest color palette of all princesses. I’m split between making her into a black widow (to give them more of an acrobatic advantage) or a scorpion. It kinda gave me an excuse to change her hair style. In my version they are step-sisters that are also rivals. Aurora is a loyal and trusting warrior whilst Twila is more of a resigned trickster.

Estelia and Selena

I haven't really changed much with these two. Except I had Estelia’s outfit more based on La Catrina, down to the bright red and orange dress. I used a hat decorated with feathers (based on the feathers from the original helmet), marigolds and sugar skulls. I think she would keep her bone club whilst giving Selena a scythe. As for Selena ~~best goth gf~~ I made her outfit more based on a modern day grim reaper. Giving her a reaper hoodie (similar to my other design for Voodoo Mama) but also gave her a violet skirt. They kinda have a more *strained* relationship. Selena was taken more seriously as a leader than Estelia (since Estelia is a party goer and a little irresponsible), they drifted apart due to their differences and favoritism among their people. This made Estelia more lonelier than ever (leading her to steal the forbidden spirit board and eventually summon Dalmiro in ‘Rayman and the Livid Eclipse’). Note that Estelia is more extroverted while Selena was more introverted.

Ursula and Emma

So at first I wanted them to be like mermaid spies. But I didn't really like how they looked. I still wanted to keep the spy outfits they have. Originally I was going to give them a design that mixed between the swamp monster and a koi fish. BUT I realized what would be more fitting if these girls are half octopus (since octopi are great escape artists apparently). I also gave them gear for them to throw both on land and sea. They have water pumps on their necks for their gills as well as tech to help them with their missions (based on Abe Sapien from Hellboy). Ursula is more stoic and an overachiever, pretty much the ‘golden child’ of the spy industry. Emma is sort of the opposite, despite giving great battle plans, she can be very clumsy in her missions and dojo practice. She was often not taken seriously by other spies for her less ‘intimate’ appearance (which is ironic because her bright tentacles are technically TOXIC since she’s based on a blue ringed octopus).

Olympia and Sibylla

So for Olympia I kind of give her more of an angelic appearance. Originally I was going to give her an appearance that is a mix between a Greek goddess and a biblically accurate angel but I feel like the multiple wings might be a little too much, but I’ll figure it out. Olympia can be a great sweetheart although she sometimes has an unaware ‘god complex’ as she’s half titan and/or god. Sometimes she’ll say things that can be hurtful unintentionally. She’s often lonely most of her immortal life on Olympus Maximus, so she doesn’t really know how to make friends. As for her distant Sister Sibylla, I gave her more of a hunter or brute-ish look, giving her an appearance of a huntress demigod. To top it off with the head of a previous Minotaur king after she’s been slaying Minotaurs and demons for centuries in the underworld. Making her kind of a “sadist” when it comes to battle.

They’re not completed as of yet but here’s some concepts I did so far

Continuing my Ray-Princess-redesign-Practice, now to Emma, basically a walking Cocktail with Spiky oranges to use as fisticuffs when on a Spy mission.

Wanted to practice Character design, and the Rayman Movie idea was still stuck in my head so decided to use the Ray-Legends-Princesses as a Base.

They don’t belong in a Ray-setting, but I made the effort to make them a bit whimsical.

Selena/Estelia is a bit poorly done, I could’ve Emphasized her Flowers more, or leaned more towards the Aztek- aesthetic... maybe take out her boots to make her float above the ground. I DO love the Flame-Scyth, though.

My personal favourite is Ursula. Fancy Man in Black wannabe with a semi Cyborg-Mermaid feel? Come on.

Twila is a Boy... why not. With a Grappling hook for the Bloody strolls at the Beanstalk
