I’ve been buying gem silica fairly often since 2014, when I was lucky to obtain a big parcel of rough on the very last day I was in Tucson. I strolled up in the parking lot of a grocery store (the one Gabby Giffords got shot in) at around dusk and was handed a giant crate of blue goodness. I had NO idea what I was doing. But it looked good, and I wanted to get more into the he rough and cut side of the industry. Low lighting and my lack of experience could have turned in to a really bad purchase. But it turned out to be one of my best rough purchases to date. That Ray mine find of 2014 I was told was a bit hydrophane (retaining water), and needed to cure for some time before cutting it. I’ve got small bits over the years, but finally took a bigger batch overseas to have cut. I’ve loved this type of rough ever since.
