‘Wreck-It Ralph’ at the El Capitan

Last night I had the opportunity to see ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ at the El Capitan Theatre, and it was magical. I’ve taken pictures, which I will share, along with my personal account of the entire event.

A lot happened, and this is a long post with multiple images, so I will put the rest under a Read-more.

To start off the evening, a good friend of mine and I make our drive to Hollywood, parked, and proceeded to walk to the Theatre. Even from the outside, this place is stunning.

Stepping up to the door, we showed our tickets and received wristbands, one raffle ticket each, a high quality print of concept art by Ryan Lang, and a cute, Snow White button. The staff was amazing, and made sure my friend and I felt very welcome. And let me tell you, this building is beautiful. If you want to see high quality images of the interior, look no further than their website.

And since my friend and I were of the first 75 people to enter the theatre that night, we had the opportunity to go downstairs to wait in line to meet Rich Moore, and get the art prints we received signed. Again, the staff was great and  well organized. 

Rich Moore himself was incredibly kind and inviting, it was really great to get to meet him in person and share a few words. Here is a picture of my art print signed:

After the signing, my friend and I made our way upstairs and into the theatre. And on stage was a man playing an Organ. This Organ, guys, oh my God.

This Organ is beautiful, and the sounds that come from it are absolutely gorgeous. The Organist played many disney classics, and eventually played himself off with ‘Be Our Guest.’ 

Once the Organ and it’s player descended into the stage, Rich Moore was brought out on stage. Firstly, he announced the winning numbers for the raffle. There were, I believe, 7 prizes in total (2 WiR themed goodie bags, 4 original sketches from an artist at Disney Animation, whose name I sadly can’t recall, and a giant film poster signed by Rich Moore). 

Next, Rich introduced a couple of very special guests, Raymond Persi and...

Puppet Gene!!!

Both Rich and Gene took a couple questions from the audience, and what we learned is that Gene very much still doesn’t like Ralph, and he didn’t like Turbo because the guy always tracked mud in the penthouse!

Puppet Gene was then dismissed, and Rich Moore talked a bit about the upcoming film, ‘Zootopia.’ And that’s when Flash the sloth was called out on stage to announce the start of the movie. 

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ was fantastic, as always, and after the show, my friend and I did a little exploring. Upstairs, there was a hall with pictures and such from different movie premieres. Here’s a picture of the display for ‘Wreck-It Ralph:’

And guys, they had the game, ‘Fix-It Felix Jr.’ I hadn’t had the pleasure to play the actual arcade version of this game before last night (they removed it from Disneyland before I moved here) and it is actually really tough. The controls, as compared to the online and mobile versions of the game, feels about 50% slower. ‘Fix-It Felix Jr.’ would definitely be a quarter guzzler if it wasn’t free to play. 

And when I hit ‘GAME OVER,’ the night at the El Capitan Theatre concluded. My friend and I talked a bit with the staff before leaving, and again they were great, and we walked out talking about how much we want to come back to see ‘Zootopia.’

TL;DR this event was great, and my friend and I feel incredibly spoiled (in the good way!). Rich Moore was wonderful, the staff was wonderful, and it was just an unforgettable experience that I am really glad I had the opportunity to attend, especially since I only found out about it a couple days prior.

A fan letter to Raymond Persi

Dear Mr. Persi,

First of all, congratulations for all those Annie Awards last night! You and everyone else in the cast and crew of Wreck-It Ralph fully deserved it. Secondly, I wanted to take this time to personally thank you for everything you've done. Not only did you help to create an amazing movie that has brightened so many people's lives, but you've also put up with the weird fans (including me) and you're even willing to answer all of our silly questions! Rest assured that we all think that you're incredibly awesome, and that we appreciate the time you take out of your busy life to talk to us.

As both a soon-to-be animation student who's always wanted to be a story artist, and a huge Wreck-It Ralph fan, I can't even begin to express how much I admire you. Please accept this small token of my gratitude: a picture of RayRay dressed up as Gene. If nothing else, I hope that it at least brings a smile to your face today.
