Garp's Polycule Situation: (Garp is friends with Rouge and Shakky too, I just forgot to include those arrows.)
Garp (19) and Roger (18) meet on an island somewhere. Then Rayleigh gets involved and sure Garp likes him, but he mostly likes Rayleigh as a friend that he occasionally sleeps with. So they have poly relationship/situationship.
They have an arrangement where they meet up on the islands where Garp will be stationed at.
So for three years they basically: fight, bang (sometimes right on the battlefield), they eat, and then they part ways. They also help each other when it matters (ex. God's Valley, Ace, etc.).
Then Garp finds out they are pirates and they have a falling out. The thing is though, Garp wasn't mad that they were pirates. Garp at this point knows that the marines aren't all they're cracked up to be, so he was just mad that they didn't tell him.
During this fallout period, Garp (22) meets Whitebeard (18) who is not yet part of Rocks' crew. Whitebeard doesn't mind that he is being used as a rebound; he thinks Garp is hot. Their relationship also consists of: they fight, they bang (sometimes right on the battlefield), they eat, and then they part ways.
Roger sees this and gets jealous. So he and Rayleigh track Garp down in order to apologise. They make up, but Garp still sees Whitebeard when they piss him off.
Eventually, Garp finds out he is pregnant and Dragon is born. Since the marines aren't very friendly to members with children and Garp's only living relative is his mother who doesn't like him; Garp stays on Roger's ship for his pregnancy and Dragon is raised on the ship until he is two. Dragon doesn't know this yet because nobody bothered to tell him.
Fast forward to when the Kuja and Rocks pirates come into play.
Shakky likes Rayleigh, Roger and Rayleigh like Shakky, Garp feels like he isn't enough and is constantly "accidentally" pushing Gloriosa (who nobody likes outside of friendship) overboard.
Garp knows that Rayleigh likes Shakky and tells Roger that Shakky doesn't like him. Roger is a bit dense and confused about why Garp is mad and why Rayleigh seems a bit distant. Roger just tells Garp to mind his business and to stay out of his.
See, for Garp, it will always be Roger for him. No matter what happens. Not that he doesn't love Whitebeard or Rayleigh, it's just that his love for Roger is different.
And Roger does love Garp too, but he doesn't really understand how to separate admiration and love. In his mind it's like: "I'm a pirate, so of course I surround myself with powerful and beautiful people!"
Roger only gets his head out of his ass when he sees Rocks try to make moves on Garp and when he sees Whitebeard ask Garp if he is okay.
So Shakky and Rayleigh get together while Roger and Garp talk it out. Basically:
Roger: I don't know why you're so jealous, you have other partners!
Garp: No I don't. It's only Whitebeard besides you and Rayleigh. And I only go to him when you upset me!
Roger: Only Whitebeard? You really don't have anyone else?
Garp: No! And I don't know why I even bother to come back to you when all you do is break my heart!
Roger: I break your heart?
Garp: Yes! I love you, but you don't even seem to care you selfish prick! You're all I care about besides my friends and kids, one of which is probably yours by the way! I don't even love Rayleigh as much as I love you!
So Roger realises: "Oh, so he feels the same way I do about him."
They make up and things go back to normal, but healthier. They are the main couple and get permission from each other to get involved with others.
Shakky leaves the Kuja and sets up shop on Rock's island. She and Rayleigh have a kid together. But then Shakky and their five old son get kidnapped.
God Valley happens and Shakky is recovered, but her and Rayleigh's son is not. They find Shanks instead and then they find Buggy.
Years pass and they meet Rogue. With Garp's permission, Roger starts a relationship with her.
Garp and Rouge were definitely friends and causing chaos. She was a bounty hunter after all, so she probably saw him at a marine base while collecting a bounty. They were best friends that shared a stupid boyfriend.
Shakky and Rogue have so much fun ripping people off together.
Then Roger decides to go looking for the One Piece and everything goes to shit.
Garp and Roger get into a fight over going after the One Piece because Garp just didn't want his loved ones to die, but he doesn't know how to communicate that properly.
So Roger, Rayleigh, and Rouge all left him at once.
Garp doesn't talk or see any of them for a couple years before Roger handed himself in.
Then Garp doesn't see Rayleigh and Shakky until like 10 years after Roger and Rouge died.
So I guess Whitebeard has been Garp's most stable relationship in this AU, but due to Garp's issues with talking about things, Whitebeard thinks that Garp captured Roger and brought him to the gallows.
Whitebeard doesn't know that it was Rogers choice to die that way because he was sick.
Oh, and everybody thinks Ace is dead because Garp didn't tell anyone that he gave the baby to Dragon. Also, nobody knows what Roger and Rouge wanted to name the baby.
