I don’t know if you’ve answered this before but I was wondering if you believe Louis/Harry still have the rbb Twitter account? I’m mainly wondering because the handle isn’t available for new accounts meaning they must be somewhat active, right?

Although this is currently (2021) the policy for the deactivated accounts:

The username and email address on a deactivated account are available for use on another account 30 days after the account was deactivated. Within those 30 days, the information remains tied to the deactivated account to allow for reactivation.

It isn’t clear why the handle wasn’t available after 30 days. Because the account was deactivated. Twitter rules are not clear, if you look online they say if the handle is not available yet after you deactivated the account you have to wait six months. But it has been 5 years now, it should be available. So there's two options here: a) It's some sort of bug b) Back in 2016 there was something about extending the deactivation period:

Absent a separate arrangement between you and Twitter to extend your deactivation period, after 30 days, we begin the process of deleting your account from our systems, which can take up to a week.

So it's possible they have an arrangement and they can claim the account back even though it was deactivated years ago. No idea how that would work, no idea if that's what really happened. But considering they also have an active phone number after all this time without any reasonable explanation besides they kept it and they're still paying for the number... I think the possibility that they didn't want anyone to take the handle is very possible. It doesn't mean they will reactivate the account at some point, maybe they didn't want any trolls claiming the handle after a few months and fucking everything up.

Do you know how they are able to keep the twitter handle, if they deleted it how come people can't use it now?

This is the million dollar question!

The generally accepted explanation is that Twitter is letting them keep it in a state of deactivation. Their help section states:

We only retain your user data for 30 days from the date of deactivation, after which we begin the process of deleting your account from our systems, which can take up to a week, as provided in our Privacy Policy, unless there is a separate arrangement between you and Twitter to extend your deactivation period.

There isn’t really much else they could be doing. They could be doing something similar to what they’re doing with the phone which would be reactivating the account periodically only to deactivate again, maybe. I’m not sure if that would work.

I don’t see the point in them doing that if they could come to an arrangement with Twitter. 

(Of course, they could have a similar arrangement with their phone network (Three) to keep their number active without having to turn it on and send a text or something. It’s been established now that they are actively making an effort to keep the number and Twitter handle but WHY?!)

i...uhm...  lol  i always took that to mean like the boys?  but...that is a possibility.  i mean, i dunno how much i think it is an actual viable chance that they come back, but anything is possible.  i do want to extend this caution though: the time for the deactivation of the account has passed where the original owners can retain the url.  there have been some strange happenings regarding this that implies they do still have control of it, however it could be that someone was very quick and able to get ahold of it before anyone i know of tried to in order to save it from trolls.  please be careful if the account does reactivate and don’t trust it is actually them without sufficient evidence to the contrary, okay?
