Reacting to Aslan and Lale’s end…
I put off the latest episodes of Dracula: A Love Story for a long time, because I didn’t want to see Aslan and Lale die.
I love the past characters. I love young Vlad better than vampire Vlad, Lale more than Laia, and Aslan more than Leo. It really did feel like they were all soulmates. Their love for each other felt like something special. I don’t get that from the future versions. It’s not the same.
Surprisingly, I wasn’t completely destroyed by Aslan’s death scene. Even his death was beautiful, fighting to project Lale without a hint of doubt or fear. ❤️
It was actually Lale’s devastation that got to me. I can’t imagine watching my best friend/love of my life die right in front of my eyes. Then being dragged off of his body, into a public arena, and forced to marry a murderer in front of everyone. It’s soul crushing. I don’t condone suicide, but if I was just sentenced to a lifetime of being a monster’s sex slave after all of that! At that point, there’s nothing but despair. I don’t blame her one bit. Aslan’s death was less cruel. (And poor Shahi Hatun. 😢)
Knowing Aslan and Lale were reborn as Leo and Laia doesn’t make me feel much better. It was Aslan and Lale who deserved to live a long, full, happy lives. They were those beautiful souls worth bringing back. Leo and Laia… they’re nice, but they still feel like different people to me. Leo is not Aslan, and Laia is not Lale. Knowing now how things ended, I wish their personalities had been kept the same. 💔 (And Leo’s hair the same. If Mikael can have long, luscious locks, why not Leo?)
Next, Vlad will arrive too late, go berserk, and begin his descent into the underworld. But how will things tie altogether in the future?
I think Mehmed and Vlad’s mutual love for Lale/Laia will unite them in defeating Mephis. I think Mehmed will be the one who kills Mephis. He will die as a result of Mephis’ power being destroyed. Vlad will come full circle by saving Leo and Laia at a climactic moment. If you are romancing Vlad, you will get a happy ending. But if you are romancing anyone else, Vlad will probably die. Just a guess.
Though after these deaths, I don’t feel like playing to the end. They were my whole reason for continuing DALS. Poor Lale and Aslan deserved much better. (Can we have an alternate ending where they lived happily ever after…😭)
