TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH
May 31, 2015 -- Race 5
After a rain-out two weeks ago, we were back at The Coral Springs RC
Track for Race 5 of the TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH. All week long the
forecast was good then bad, then good, then bad. The track was in
excellent shape but as the heat sweltered it dried out fast and the
crew had to put some extra effort to keep it up to the high standards
that everyone has come to expect. We once again, we gave away another
Boca Bearing $50 gift card and John Hancock took it home and will be
getting some new bearings real soon.
The first round started just after 10 am. The 2WD Stock buggy class
was big enough to have two heats and by the end of the second Corey
Record won the first round TQ with 12 laps in 5:25.441. In the 2 WD
Modified class, Bart Collins took the TQ with a buffer of just over 14
seconds. Modified truck was up next and Bart continued the early day
dominance he had at Mills Pond the week before. 4WD Modified buggy was
up next and Gavin “The Hammer” Butera took the round 1 TQ with a fast
lap of an amazing 24.593. Let the BASHING begin and the Pro 4 Modified
SCT class lived up to their reputation. Both heats started in clumps
of the now infamous rocket start all together, but when the dust
settled…literally. Daniel Paz took the 1st round’s TQ with 12 laps
5:25.816. The big class of the day was E buggy with 21 entries and
three heats of power, power and more…power! In the end however, there
can be only one, and it was Mike Mennella with his 12 laps 5:05.399
that was just over Jeff Kranz’s 12 laps 5:07.229 to grab the early TQ.
Cesar Souza and Mike Mennella took Sportmans and Pro Nitro in that
order and round one ended.
After the track crew did their magic we were ready for round two. This
round saw a lot closer racing with 0.210 making the difference between
Corey Record wining the point and Chris Intravia taking second. Tom
Allen ended up in the number three spot for the "A" Main in 2WD Stock
Buggy. 2WD Modified Buggy had Corey Record taking the point away from
Bart Collins with just 1.273 to spare, while Daniel Chavez rounded out
the top three. Modified Truck once again had Corey Record finding his
Mojo and taking away another point from Bart Collins. Reuben Diaz
completed the top three. 4WD Modified Buggy was the third consecutive
race that Corey Record won, but unfortunately for Corey, Gavin "The
Hammer" Butera kept the point and TQ with his round one performance.
Pro 4 Modified SCT was up next and Tekno driving Jeff Kranz finally
had something go right on a tough day, taking away the point from
Daniel Paz. Jeff Record slipped by Gavin "The Hammer" Butera to jump
up to the third spot to start the "A" Main. After the three-heat E
Buggy 2nd round ended, it was Bart Collins, Michael Mennella and Jeff
Kranz in that order with less than five seconds separating them. James
Wicker took back his TQ, Cesar Souza kept the number two spot from his
round one finish and Eric Bernard was slotted in three for the
Sportsman Nitro "A" Main. Mike Bellotti, Micheal Mellenna and John
Bertelsen completed the top three spots in Pro Nitro and the Mains
were set.
We began the lower Mains with the "C" in E Buggy, Fred Rodrigez took
his first win and John Hancock was 4.983 behind to bump up to the "B".
2WD Stock Buggy was all about Jared Cooper and Pak Lee taking it easy
and going to the show. Pro 4 Modified SCT "B" Main finally saw the
monkey jump off the back of "B" Main winner Jeff Jones. Jay Natoli
took the two and both went to the Featured Main. Mike Brown and
Richard Johnston battled a rough and pounding race to get themselves
up to the E Buggy "A" Main to get us into the Featured Mains.
2WD Stock Buggy was a cake-walk for Chris Intravia with a brutal
bashing round in a class that doesn't have a lot of it. Corey Record
took second with on again off again RC racer Yamig Torres in third.
Bart Collins took back the top spot splitting the "100" with Corey
Record and Daniel Chavez stayed was a consistent third in 2WD Modified
Buggy. Modified Truck flip-flopped back to Corey Record for the win,
Bart Collins for the place and Jeff Kranz the show. Corey Record did
it again and took the win away from TQ Gavin Butera as Jonathan Hutton
came out of nowhere for the three spot in the 4WD Modified Buggy. Once
again in Pro 4 Modified SCT had a spit between Daniel Paz in first and
Jeff Kranz with the TQ and in second. Gavin Butera jumped up a spot
and locked in third. The ten minute battle for the day's E Buggy
dominance goes to Bart Collins by just over 18 seconds to Daniel Paz
and Michael Mennella finishing up in the top three. Sportsman Nitro
once again had James Wicker as the winner, then Eric Benard and Paul
Holness. Finally, Pro Nitro "A" Main took the stage and after 20 mins
it was Bart Collins on top, a controversy erupted between Michael
Mennella (2 to 3) and Mike Belotti (3 to 2) who ask me to switch their
points around due to some lane jump. Thanks guys for being honest.
It's why I enjoy RC Racing.
