Current and former female inmates in Oklahoma say that the state’s corrections system is full of corruption and abuse. Here one former inmate, Asia Montgomery, who struggled with addiction, tells her story.

Nekia Brown, returning felon
Oklahoma resident Nekia Brown has tried to re-enter society from prison several times, and each time she failed. Her latest attempt to stay out is through a program called ReMerge that gives mothers of minor children an alternative to prison. Sentencing on her most recent drug charges was held. If she finishes the program, they’ll be dropped. But she’s struggling. Read (watch, listen to) her story, and that of other women at reentry.usatoday.com.
