“What’s up?” Is the debut mini album released by Superbia Entertainment’s seven-member boy group, RE:NEW. It was released on June 21st, 2019 and consisted of six tracks. The group members were initially introduced one at a time via introductory videos, and ahead of their debut, they had a six-episode show entitled Fresh Start! Their debut was well anticipated, particularly as Superbia Entertainment had yet to venture into the territory of more energetic and bright boy group concepts.
Two concept photos were released per member: a ‘fresh’ version, including brighter colors and natural makeup, and a ‘new’ version, categorized by slightly darker hues and neon. Overall, the concept was nowhere near as dark as teaser images previously seen from their other boy groups. The group’s debut title track, Something earned them two wins during the span of its promotions, though they also promoted their sidetrack, Paradise on music shows. Alongside the music video release, a choreography version was dropped, and three different dance practices. The boys also had a streaming event, during which new content would be dropped as their music video reached different goals in terms of views. Through the event, a choreography video was release for Paradise, as well as a special suit version of Something’s choreography.

TRACKLIST
“Something” - insp. Lucente’s ‘YOUR DIFFERENCE’
Something combines traditional hip-hop with a lighter, energetic synth, with an addictive and unexpected chorus. The song’s momentum is particularly driven, especially in the build-up, and though there is quite a bit of rap (a la typical Superbia fashion), the strong vocals in this track were really given space to shine through. Something’s melody takes surprising turns throughout the course of the song, and truly no one could expect a Superbia group to not come through with a strong rap-line and a brighter concept with a twist. The choreography is energetic and strong, and truly gave the members an opportunity to show off their charismatic stage presences. The group was especially praised for their ability to turn such a potentially aggressive song into something bright and fun, especially because of their expressions and styling!
“Paradise” - insp. TST’s song of the same name
Paradise begins with an artistic guitar riff and simply blossoms from there, becoming increasingly more synth-focused and busy as the song reaches the swooping chorus. Despite the potential for becoming generic when categorized primarily by piano notes, guitar, and electronic synth, Paradise finds a way to keep itself interesting through the vocal-driven melodies and rap-break withheld towards the end of the track. The stacked vocals and emotional tone to the chorus are remarkably effective and powerful, and despite the hook’s not being exactly complicated, the buildup it provides ultimately adds well to the song. Paradise gives off a feeling of being a bit rough and not exactly polished until the chorus, which adds to the dreamy and wistful nature of the song. The choreography is graceful but eye-catching, and the styling added to the effect.
“Afterparty” - insp.Spectrum’s song of the same name
“Take a Chance” - insp. Pentagon’s ‘Just do it yo!!’
“Second Try” - insp. BTOB’s ‘Second Confession’
“Just as u are” - insp. ONF’s ‘Pretty’
ERA NOTES
The hair colors popped off
Sanghyun - Lighter brown
Quinn - Black
Yunyi - Dark blue
Gem - Red
Junsu - Platinum blond
Ari - Orange-red
Kyuwon - Dark chocolate brown
The styling was casual and colorful for their debut! There were a lot of brightly colored outfits and makeup looks, and accessories such as bandanas, baseball caps, berets (especially Sanghyun), and layered casual clothing. The styling was a lot simpler than expected from a Superbia group, and the members were comfortable in t-shirts and sweaters, belts, and for some, ripped jeans.
A VERY cute detail: many of the members sported colorful stickers on their faces a la freckles, but they were shaped like tiny stars and hearts!
Kyuwon had wavier hair and wore glasses often onstage. The glasses trend was one shared by Sanghyun (who actually needs them, but shh).
The boys just obviously have so much fun onstage and being around each other :(( they all just seemed to brighten each other up a lot, and even though many of them had never really performed in front of such big crowd, the nervous energy was quickly dispelled.
Junsu and Ari were admittedly the most nervous to debut, but their reality programs showed the other members supporting them lots and it was adorable.
The music video was very colorful and fun, with interesting editing including lots of text effects and animation. It was shot both indoors and outdoors, with the dance portions filmed against a graffiti wall that was animated to have moving graffitti that spelled out key lyrics. There was definitely an emotional undertone to the song, as the lyrics essentially describe a relationship falling apart because some indescribable something is wrong, but the approach is a bit more curious and playful than brooding and agonizing. Overall, the music video wasn’t overwhelmingly complex, but it was aesthetically pleasing and exciting.
The physical album packaging had two versions: a white version with neon green accents (FRESH ver.) and a black version with neon pink accents (SOMETHING ver.). The selca photocards were adorable, and Newbies were really blessed with lots of freebies in the albums, like postcards, bookmarks, and polaroids with printed signatures and cute messages.
Quinn’s main talent was revealed during a variety show: he’s an incredibly gifted liar. He was given the challenge to lie consistently throughout the course of the episode, and if he were caught, he would have to suffer a consequence. He made it through the entire episode without being caught, despite the fact that the majority of what he said was completely untrue.
Immediately from debut, they announced plans for the dance line (Gem, Yunyi, Quinn, Junsu) to release monthly choreography videos either as a team or individually. Yunyi alone got the first month, and a video was uploaded of him dancing with female backup dancers to Exo’s Kokobop, showing off his strong dance skills.
There were so many cute interactions between RE:NEW and their sunbaenims: Hijinx, Ultraviolet, ARCANA, and Saturn in particular.
hello is the second mini album released by Superbia Entertainment’s seven-member boy group, RE:NEW. it was dropped on October 3rd, 2019, and featured the title track wow! The concept for this era was equally as youthful and cheerful as their debut, and featured a playful boyfriend concept and a colorful, retro-inspired aesthetic. The vibrancy of the music video complemented the upbeat nature of the tracks on the album, of which there were seven in total.

AESTHETIC/ERA NOTES
The visual concept for this era matched the retro feeling of the music, and was as colorful and vibrant as the album itself. The individual member teaser for the comeback featured the boys in hazy pink and purple lighting, the photos edited with a slight scan-lines filter, and with a film effect to them that had their names spelled out in the lower corners.
The group teaser photos were taken in a record store, with members artfully posed amongst the music. Taking after popular edit trends on social media, there was an effect to the photos that made them slightly glittery to truly drive home that retro boyfriend aesthetic.
The styling was all very endearing! The boys wore soft, worn t-shirts with various slogans, soft sweaters, cuffed jeans, and multi-colored jackets with multiple enamel pins. Quinn and Ari boasted glasses, and many of the members once again had their hair slightly curled for a youthful and playful look. The color scheme for their clothing was mostly pastels and white, including pink-tinted lenses in Ari’s glasses for a few shots.
While the music video itself was relatively simplistic and highlighted the members as they each yearned after the same girl, RE:NEW were praised for the aesthetic quality of the video, as well as the cinematically-inclined framing of the shots. The transitions were all remarkably smooth, and the consistent color scheme lent a dreamy and sweet tone to the video.
The members boasted new hair colors, and were as follows:
Sanghyun - a dark, rich blue
Yunyi - warm, red-toned brown
Quinn - silvery white
Junsu - purple-blue
Gem - black
Ari - dark brown
Kyuwon - light, blond-toned brown
The album came in two versions, a pink and a purple, and was absolutely adorable. It was small and square and the side had a cassette tape design! The photo books were lovely and a few of the photo cards even had the boys posing with miss Bea (and one very popular photo card of Kyuwon walking into a wall in the background while Quinn and Bea took a selca together)
The girl in their music video was none other than Hijinx’s Bea! Her hair was dyed blonde, and her styling complemented the boys’ and included a beret and pink makeup. Overall, she stole the show, and it was no wonder she had the boys chasing her during the music video!
Although wow! didn’t earn RE:NEW a win, the boys came close a few times, and fans continue to insist that they were cheated out of the recognition they deserved :’)
The boys released a regular dance practice video, as well as a part switch version, and a halloween costume version! the playful choreography contrasted quite a bit with some of the darker costumes donned by the boys (lookin’ at you, mr. vampire quinn), but it was overall as endearing as could be expected from the RE:NEW boys!
Basically they're baby god tier boyfriends and that’s that, i won’t be accepting questions at this time
He, Kyuwon, and Ari are the chaotic line in RE:NEW.
He’s so ridiculously loud it isn’t even funny.
He’s obsessed with designer clothing and jewelry, and usually wears the most jewelry out of the members.
He’s especially talented in modern dance technique, and enjoys free styling any variety of choreography.
Most people expect him to be a vocalist based on his looks, but he can rap ridiculously well.
He has no preference for which name fans use, and will accept either Gem or Yixuan readily.
He’s lived in three different countries.
He has a natural affinity for languages, and is currently in the process of working to improve his Japanese and his English.
He’s admitted that he doesn’t like spicy food all that much...he just tends to add a lot of spice to his meals so Kyuwon, in particular, doesn’t take any of his food.
Negative ↬ Talks too fast, show-off, likes the spotlight, hyperactive
↳ 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑎
He’s lived on almost every continent. His father travels extensively for work, and as such, Ari speaks several languages. He lived in Scotland for the longest, though he lived in Amsterdam for the majority of his teenaged years. He’s also lived in Berlin, Paris, the United States, briefly in London, and in Panama.
His accept is mostly Scottish when he speaks English, though there’s a few other European inflections in there.
A fan once asked him what language he thinks in, and he responded without hesitating “Bold of you to assume I think at all.”
He talks ridiculously quickly at times, and he’s the rapid rapper of the group.
His Instagram account is basically one big meme.
He’s close friends with Roxanne from Hijinx, Minsung from UV, as well as Hanjae from Saturn.
He can’t do any form of basic math, and would probably cry if asked to add anything past single digits.
⟶ RE:NEW (레뉴) is a seven-member idol group under Superbia Entertainment. They’re known for their refreshing and bright pop music, youthful charm, and retro aesthetics. Their goal is to charm fans with their boy-next-door good looks and energy, and although they’re a rookie group, so far, they’ve done just that.
‷ COMPANY ⟶ Superbia Entertainment
‷ MEMBERS ⟶ Sanghyun ′ Yunyi ′ Quinn ′ Junsu ′ Gem ′ Ari ′ Kyuwon
He’s the tallest idol under Superbia Entertainment.
He smacks his head into doorways often, and there are famous Hijinx photocards where trainee Kyuwon can be seen smacking his head on the door in the background.
He’s very competitive when he plays video games, but he’s very good.
Kyuwon was a model under the company before he became a trainee.
He’s inherently very clumsy, and drops things often.
He isn’t allowed to eat at fancy restaurants, because he’ll inevitably end up embarrassing himself.
He has four older sisters, and they all treat him like he’s literally 12, despite being an idol and a foot taller than the tallest one.
He loves mangos and other tropical fruits.
He isn’t allowed to have caffeine in any form past 8:00PM.
He’s an insomniac, particularly when he feels like he has work that needs to get done, and the other members have outed him for only sleeping an hour or two each night. As a result, he tends to take a lot of naps throughout the day, especially in sunlight…earning him the nickname “사자” (saja), or lion. He answers to that more often than his own name.
He has a bad habit of walking in on the other members at just…the worst possible times.
His English pronunciation is very good, and some are surprised to learn that he has never studied or lived abroad.
He absolutely loves anything lemon flavored.
Sanghyun has a studio he uses for songwriting and production, and he doesn’t allow anyone in there aside from those really close to him. as far as re:new goes, only Yunyi has been inside for more than a few seconds.
He has a younger brother, Sanghoon (born 1997), and the two sort of just...tolerate each other from a distance.
Sanghyun loves mocha chip frappuccinos more than he loves himself. They’re his go to song-writing drink, and he won’t drink them without lots of whipped cream.
He rarely raises his voice, and if he does...it’s time to listen the hell up.
He can’t handle alcohol well, or spicy foods, according to him.
He has a very soft speaking voice, and is usually overpowered by the other members when he has something to say. Kyuwon usually just says Junsu’s jokes and ideas louder and gets all the credit.
He may speak in tiny text, but his laugh is really loud.
Junsu is very shy, but onstage, he’s a powerful dancer and seems more comfortable than he really is.
His favorite colors are light blue and periwinkle.
He has two younger sisters and two older sisters. Jieun and Jiae are twins, and were born in 2000. His older sisters are Jinjoo (born 1992) and Jina (born 1989). Jina and Jinjoo are both married, and Jina is currently pregnant with triplets (all girls). He’s the only boy in his family besides his dad, and dear God, does that kill him.
His favorite food is ice cream, especially mint chocolate chip.
Junsu will only drink coffee with so much cream and sugar that it’s practically not even coffee anymore.
